It Was A Great Birthday

Hello everyone, did you all have a good day? It was sunny, windy but warm. Still not real hot here, just pleasant and great weather for a BBQ.

What a day I had today. I am totally exhausted but very happy. My friends arrived around 2 this afternoon. There were five of us and everyone brought their own meat, whatever they were drinking and another dish. The food was delicious, I enjoy eating what other people make. Between us there were 8 salads, cabbage rolls and baked potatoes....rolls, pickles and coleslaw. It was delicious. One of the girls brought rhubarb/strawberry pie and it looked wonderful but I was too full to have a piece. It was so much fun as we laughed and chatted the afternoon away.

After supper, 2 of my neighbours stopped in and joined us for tea/coffee. It was still warm enough to enjoy the deck and we all commented on the absence of mosquitoes and midgets this year. I'm sure they are coming yet, but usually by this time of year the advanced party is here. None of us were complaining though.

Around 8 o'clock we put lawn chairs in one of the girls car (trunk) and went to the Town Center where the Fireworks were starting at 10. We just left the chairs in the trunk and took a walk around town. Morinville is small, one street light, one Main Street and approximately 12,000 people. We toured Main Street and then walked through neighborhoods admiring and taking pictures of plants, flowers and gardens. Some of them were so beautiful and we are late this year so many trees and shrubs are just coming into full bloom. We stopped at this little stand for ice cream and sat on town benches to enjoy them. (Mine was Maple Walnut and what a treat it was)

Just before 10 we got our chairs and placed them in a lovely spot where we could view the Fireworks. The town outdid themselves this year as for half an hour we as well as others oohed and awed throughout the show. The colors and patterns were almost breathtaking, and just like the children we loved it. We all took pictures of the sunset as well as the Fireworks.

We came back home and the girls came in to get their dishes and sweaters before saying Good Night, we all knew we had shared a wonderful day. After they left I cleaned up the deck and put the dishwasher through. I dragged my feet up to bed, it must of been the fresh air but I was so very tired. When I climbed into bed with my laptop I realized I left my camera downstairs and went down to get it but couldn't find it. I have looked everywhere, it must be in Linda's car. It was after midnight so I didn't want to call her but I will in the morning.

I don't know why but as I started answering my e-mails I woke up....I wasn't tired at all. So I did my e-mails, paid my bills and caught up on Face Book before I headed to my blog. I then dozed off with the TV on, night table light on and the computer on my lap....only me eh! I am now wide awake writing my blog. Oh well I will sleep in, in the morning as my appointment isn't until 1 o'clock, I will leave here around noon as I want to go to Curves first. I did 20 minutes on my glider this morning as Curves was closed today.

Will post pictures soon, I promise Marcy. I took some of my tomato plants and I'll show you all how my glads are coming through. It will be a while before they blossom for sure but it's okay as we saw some tonight and they weren't as far out of the ground as mine are. As I said earlier our growing season is quite late this year.

I am off to read blogs and comments, as always my friends..... Good Night and God Bless...:-) Hugs

Yes, indeed, you did have a wonderful day. Your town sounds like Bicknell. We lived on Main Street for 20 years and with one stop light and grand people all 'round. My best! Cathy

Good morning Bernie...did you sleep in? You really had a full day...and so much food to nibble on at your BBQ...that walk took the place of Curves too...I live just outside an even smaller town Bernie, but it's close enough to larger ones...we are having very cool temps here...the lowest since 1963...the year I was married.
Hope you found your camera this morning...I too would like to see
your photos...
This weekend is our celebration of Independance Day...July 4th.

Smile and take care today Bernie!

I laughed when I read about you climbing into bed and catching your second wind of energy... AND THEN dozing off with the TV and lights on, AND THEN waking up and working on your blog. Fresh cool air and wonderful friends are energizing!

Speaking of fresh cool air, thank you for sending it down our ways. It was getting miserably humid.

Sounds like a wonderful time, Bernie. And the kind of 'tired' that I love, that happy exhaustion.

I love relaxing get-togethers like that, I think that's why I love my family and close friends coming over most of all, if the house isn't picked up, or we forgot to buy something food-wise, nobody cares, we're just getting together for the fun. I don't feel like the house has to be perfect (well, it never really is anyway) but there's no pressure to play 'hostess' or anything like that.
And 'pot-luck' is the best!

You were probably so full because your body is so used to eating healthy and eating less now, that's great to feel so full you can pass up dessert!

'Glad you enjoyed Canada's special day!
Have a good day, Bernie!
All the best,
Eileen

O.K. I will try this again. I left a comment yesterday and for some reason it went poof again. I guess it is somewhere floating around in blogger comment heaven! But you answered one of my questions in todays post Bernie. I was wondering if they had fireworks for Canada Day. So now I know. What a great day you had and that dinner sounded delicious! I grilled chicken, hot dogs and sausage yesterday. This weather has been wonderful. Your town sounds about the same size as ours Bernie!

Sounds like you had a very nice celebration, so much like our 4th of July, isn't it? Did you have a birthday cake for Canada? If so, who is responsible for blowing out the candles or must one hope for a strong Canadian wind?

So, if you ever win a prize with any fellow bloggers, do you want us to send you some maple walnut ice cream?

It will be wonderful to see some pictures, but for now I will use my imagination and boy your tomatoes are just looking so lovely along with all the flowers...can you tell I haven't had my quota of sleep so I am goofier than usual??

blessings and hugs,

marcy

Good Morning Wanda, well it is morning for a few more minutes...I sure did sleep in but my gosh it was nearly 3 before I fell asleep.
I too have 2 cities close by but I enjoy the small town. I am going to call Linda about my camera when I get moving around. Am meeting the girls at Curves in an hour.
Wanda, we have had very few hot days so far this summer, but it has been sunny and warm enough to be comfortable. My sister, in Scotland is having a heat wave and they are having a hard time dealing with it as Scotland is always so cool and damp. Things are changing. Do you have plans for Independence Day? Have a great day my friend....:-) Hugs

Hi Diana, I really did enjoy my day yesterday, am going to Curves in a little while but it's going to be a quiet day today. I did really well with what I ate yesterday, just chicken and salad but I did treat myself to the ice cream...have to make the way I eat a lifestyle more than a diet. (Wish me luck)I do hope you have nice weather for Independence Day. Take care....:-) Hugs

Hi Diana, I too left a comment on your blog yesterday (morning) and when I visited your blog last night it wasn't there, I wonder where our comments show up eh!
I had a great day yesterday, and enjoyed my chicken and salad but enjoyed the ice cream more....am going off to Curves again shortly. Hope you are doing really well my friend...:-) Hugs

Hi Marcy, no cake yesterday but the pie sure looked good. Yes I think Canada Day is much like your 4th of July, we always enjoy it.
I will post pictures as soon as I put my hands on my camera but I do like your descriptions. Oh yes I would love Maple Walnut Ice Cream anytime my friend.
I do hope you have a wonderful day.
Lots of Hugs....:-)

Another busy day Bernie, but you sound to have had a fun time.
Too hot for us over in the UK at the moment, we only get a week or two every few years when it is this hot, so we are never prepared for it!!
Bye for now
Love Granny

Granny, I see that it is hot in England right now when I watch Tennis. It looks lovely, my sister in Scotland is having a bit of a time dealing with their heat wave. I have visited there 3 times and it was always so cool and damp compared to Canada...now that seems to have changed around, at least for this year....Have a great day Granny or I should say evening....:-) Hugs

What a full, fun day you had! Hope you find your camera, and I can't wait to see pictures of your tomatoes, etc. My cell phone camera went on the blink while our grandchildren were here - I borrowed my husbands. (We traded phones till August when our cell phone plan allows new phones.) I was LOST without the camera feature.

Your description of fireworks makes me think MAYBE I should go see some here Saturday! They usually start after my bedtime although the last few nights the neighbors have been trying some out BEFORE my bedtime, too!

Hi Bernie
"Happy Birthday" :-)

I was so happy you visited me at my blog. And here I am on this special day of yours visiting you. The food sounded so wonderful - I Love cabbage rolls or "stuffed cabbage" as we call them. :-)

I hope to visit you often and hope you will come over to my place too.
Peace and love to you
Gail

Rebecca, I'm not sure I would know how to take pictures on a cell phone, mine is just a phone. I bet it comes in handy though, August is just around the corner, hang in there. Yes, I had a wonderful day yesterday but am exhausted today, so I have cancelled appointments and am taking it easy. I did go to Curves though. Take care my friend.
Enjoy your 4th of July...:-) Hugs

Hi Gail, welome to my blog, so glad you found me. It wasn't my birthday Gail it was Canada's so I celebrated it with my friends much like you do on July 4th. Found your post very uplifting, so enjoyed my visit there...:-) Hugs

Sounds like a near perfect day with friends, good food, laughter and fireworks!
We will have a similar day here tomorrow. Our small town has fireworks planned for the 4th of July on the 3rd instead (tomorrow). Since they fire them off right down the street from where we live...I always have an open house party and then we all go down to watch the fireworks over the lake. It is supposed to warm up to the 70's degrees range, so it should be a lovely day! I hope to take pictures, too...can't wait to see yours.

Hello Bernie,
I'm just catching up with you. So glad you arrived home safely from your trip. It sounds as though you had a wonderful workshop I have not heard of Dr. Joan Borysenko, but I will do some investigating and see if she speaks at all in Denver. Congratulations on the pounds and inches lost! It's not easy but your sense of accomplishment must feel great (and you are now healthier, too). Thanks for asking about my tests - they were routine physical blood work and the DR called this evening saying all is well. I'm thankful for health and don't take it for granted. Three of my Grands are here with us in Breckenridge. We had a fun but tiring day (Pop Pop is already sleeping!). Thankfully, so are the children. More family will arrive for the holiday weekend. We'll have a cookout, so it will be easy. Hope your camera has turned up. Have a restful weekend.
