Dear Friends,
As I sit today by my warm fire watching the Olympics I feel so contented and happy, then a wash of guilt falls over me as I remember the earthquake in Chile last night and those who are trying to prepare for the tsunami. The weather has been so weird this winter, and the consequences has been devastating to so many. My prayers go out to all those affected by this latest tragedy.
I was frustrated after reading this morning's paper. The press has been brutal to our athletes and Vancouver as they host the Olympics Games. They were brutal on the Canadian Women's Hockey Team for the way they celebrated their Gold Medal Win. These reporters just don't get it. It has been a tradition for several years for all hockey teams who win a Gold Medal.......not just this team. Each winning team goes back out on the ice to toast the Games and their team mates....why? Simple.... many of these players will retire and this is the last time they will be together on ice after training/competing four years together. They wait until after they receive their medals and the arena has emptied before they toast each other, the games and their victory. Now I am not saying they are right or wrong, I am just saying this is what they do. Why some reporter who obviously knew about this tradition, had to sneak back in and photograph this team moment is beyond me, I wonder if he feels his 15 minutes of fame was worth it.
These have been an excellent Olympics. With all the diversity and the mild weather the Canadian Olympic Committee has done a fabulous job keeping it all together and getting it done. The death of the Georgian Luger was devastating but they soldiered on so that all those who worked so hard these past four years would have the opportunity to compete. Not only our Canadian athletes but all of the athletes representing their Countries have given us their best performances, I loved all of their beautiful personalities and strong discipline. Now Canadians are not a boastful people and I admire this trait but when I see a spontaneous game of street hockey begin after a hockey win or people breaking into song, automatically singing the Canadian National Anthem.....makes me proud. We don't have the great numbers to choose our athlete's from, yet those who are chosen work so hard, play harder and dream bigger. So as the last couple of days wind down let us all celebrate each other, not only the ways we are alike but even our differences. All of these young athletes deserve our respect and I for one am so happy they shared their excellent skills with us.....they have brought so many of us much entertainment, excitement and joy these past two weeks and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their shinning personalities and wonderful professionalism with the world. All of you were great, and Canadians are as proud of you as your own Countries. To me all of you deserve a Gold Medal for your efforts.
I want to share with you my new purchases, they are heavenly to a me as I suffer with peripheral neuropathy......so anyone with this same problem I highly recommend these, they are great!
Sheep Lined Slippers.......almost as comfortable as my UGGS!
Sheep Lined Foot Warmer, okay so it is a bit of a luxury and not a necessity oh but it is wonderful......should of bought one of these years ago.
Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday, God Bless..........and many, many hugs:-)

I love your slippers sweetie, I bet they are really warm, love you.
i can feel the warmth coming off those from here...i was pretty sick myself over the whole after party fiasco...the radio show host here in town talked about it all morning and i almost called but i would not have been nice...get over it...alright, my rant is done. hope you are having a lovely weekend. smiles.
Bernie,
I feel for the victims of the earthquake as well. The Olympics has been great and I am sad that it will be over tomorrow :( I don't know what I will watch on TV! I love your new slippers! Those look so comfy and warm!
Blessings,
Donna
I was saddened to hear about the quake in Chile, too. The earth is acting strange, even the weather has been bizarre.
The Canadians are doing great in the Olympics. I think of you and how proud you must be :)
Those slippers look comfortable, Bernie :) My dad has neuropathy, too, from diabetes. You are in my prayers, I hope it doesn't get worse. Your feet deserve the best!
Now Bernie, don't go spilling any Olympic secrets - I'll be watching the recorded programs long after the games are over! Most times, the Press seems to put such a negative spin on things, I don't care to listen or read what is reported. You sure look cozy in your Lazy Boy with your feet all toasty warm! Enjoy a peaceful Sunday, Bernie.
HI BERNIE-
I was so happy to see you here tonight. My husband works a very long day, from 10 to 10. So by now I am on my last leg too. phew. No complaints, I swear, no complaints.
have been following the earth quake disaster and the tsunami fears and it is so frightening.
I really enjoyed the olympics too. I didn't even hear of the toasting tradition. That is unfortunate that some reporter spun it for his personal gain.
Well, Gracey-Blue is crying to go out so I best get down stairs - I am just so glad she lets us know, ya know> Hallelujah!! :-) And I love your sheepskin furry feet warmers and coverlets. So cozy.
Love to you my friend
Gail
peace.....
I personally have enjoyed the Olympic Games! Don't think there is an Olympic Games that doesn't have it's problems...Just glad I could watch them. Good evening to you!! Cathy
Oh! Your toes look sooo comfy!
I agree with your post Bernie... Too bad the girls were portrayed in this way.
Take care!
Hugs!
Another earthquake, this time in Chile. Dreadful. I feel for the people there.
Those bootees look brilliant. Exuding warmth. I don't feel cold but neuropathy has taken some of the feeling away in toes and fingers, mainly fingers. Hoping it will go after chemo.
Nuts in May
Hi Bernie, the press has come down heavy on our athletes... we only got one gold medal and of course everyone blames lack of resources for the standard being so low. A word of encouragement now and then would go a long way to rebuilding confidence. Love your feet warmers, in my ignorance I confess to not knowing what peripheral neuropathy is, but I intend to find out. My muscles are plaguing me at the moment, I put it all down to continuous damp and cold weather.
I really enjoy your posts. :o]
Oh, I need me some of those!! Not sure they are needed here in the sunshine but I reckon they would definitely look fab and nobody else here would have a pair!!
Awesome slippers!
Now I want some!
My feet are *jealous!*
HI Bernie,
I have reallly enjoyed the Olympics. My favorite is the womens and men freestyle skating. Although, I never did get to watch the medal contenders because when they were up it was way past my bedtime.
Your slippers look very comfortable and warm. I have a pair of boots that look just like them. Do you believe that I was wearing them all day yesterday. It is still cold here in Florida.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
Oh My Gosh Bernie, my feet are always freezing, those sheep liners and the slippers looked heavenly. And I had to laugh at your position as that is my very favorite as well!
I didn't watch the Olympics but from what you described, I didn't see anything wrong with the way the womens hockey team toasted at the end.I mean for many of them this was a once in a lifetime event. How special to celebrate to remember the very special day. You know the media isn't always right and can be deceptive as well.
Love Di
Wife and daughter have slippers like that and quite like them. Enjoy the final day of the O's.
I agree with everything you said, especially about the olympics. Every athlete was there because they worked so hard, and that's actually why I have a problem with awards in general. It's more about who was best at that particular moment on that particular day, not that they were the best of anybody. They should all get medals.
Where did you get those foot warmers or rather what brand are they? They would be great for under my computer desk where my feet just freeze! Are they pretty expensive?
Good morning Bernie,
The earthquake in Chile was shocking, to have happened right after the one in Haiti. It's good the damage from the tsunami wasn't extreme.
The women's hockey team's actions were no different than other traditions of drinking champagne, pouring it or ice buckets over each other, as they do after football games and car races. Almost anything can be over analyzed and made to look wrong in some people's eyes.
Your sheep lined slippers and foot warmers look so comfortable Bernie. Luxurious things are sometimes necessary for our comfort, especially if experiencing neuropathy. Herhusband used a small "electic wool throw" at one time, until his improved. Hope you see an improvement soon, Bernie!
L♥ve...Wanda
Weather has really been brutal for the last few months! My prayers go out for the people in Chile.
Reporters all round the world are behaving like this and I don't know why.
Your bootees look great :) Have wonderful days ahead Bernie! You have become my favourite blogger.
Bernie,
At last! a few brief moments relax...Happy Sunday!
http://uchsmapeh.blogspot.com/
Bernie how true about the media. They always look for the worst in things. I am so proud of Canada and proud to be a neighbor. When the Olympics were in Atlanta we had all kinds of problems. A bomb was planted and that is still being talked about. Sad to say they will go on to their next victim. You sure look cozy and warm in those fleecey goodies. Also been watching the Chile disaster. Makes one wonder what is next. Blessings to you.
QMM
Love your cozy new slippers Bernie, where did you find them? They would feel wonderful after one of my long workdays, as my feet usually are really hurting by the end of the day.
I have been hybernating the last few days, and stopped listening to the news, so I did not hear about either of the events you mentioned here in your blog.
I am out of touch this weekend, but plan on watching Canada and USA play for the gold today. I am so excited!!!
What is 'neuropathy'? Hope you are doing ok.
my frozen little toes certainly could use the warmth of those snuggly luxuries, it is the little things after all :)
I love the slips....so glad they offer relief a bit. You are a blessing...Stay strong. Sarah
I tried to post a comment last night, but blogger just wasn't cooperating with me!
Very sad with the havoc Mother Nature is having around the world with earthquakes, storms, and tsunamis. My prayers go out to all for comfort, sustenance, aid, relief, and protection. Makes you put things in perspective.
I feel bad for the bad press the Canadian winners got too, kind of leaves a sour taste in your mouth. But just revel in their great success, Bernie! Canada is top winner of gold, right?! Kudos!
And today it's the big hockey game with Canada and the US! Both have done very well, and each is guaranteed a medal, so it's all good here!
Love your slippers and I am never without slippers at home as my feet are always freezing! Yours look wonderful and I love the idea of the little foot sack! You look comfy and cozy! Enjoy!
Love to you,
Eileen
Denise, these are by far the best slipper I have ever owned. I absolutely love them....hope you and your husband are doing well today......:-) Hugs
Oh yes Brian, these are very warm and soft.....your wife would love a pair.
Totally disgusted with the media on this issue...I say leave them alone and let them enjoy their victory......:-) Hugs
Donna, I said special prayers this morning at church for these poor people, strange weather and it is so dangerous.
Love my sheepskin foot wear, not the most fashionable but oh so warm........:-) Hugs
Mary as a diabetick I take 2 needles of insulin a day and my neuropathy has been quite painful this winter so that is why I have gone to the sheepskin and I am so loving it.......
Said special prayer this morning at church for Chile, so sad what is happening to the earth right now and so dangerous.....:-) Hugs
Barb, I did get carried away didn't I.....we Canadians are really into our hockey so there are not many secrets here but I suppose to other countries it may seem like it......love my new sheep skins Barb, they are lovely and warm.......:-) Hugs
Gail, I thought of you the past couple of days, did you get much of the storm......I am so happy you have Gracey Blue with you Gail, such good company.
I am glad you missed the media roast on the women's team, they didn't deserve it really.
Love my new sheep skins.....:-) Hugs
Cathy, I agree as we have had Olympics where althletes have been kidnapped and murdered, we have had pipe bombs in parks and when I hear the press say the worse Olympics ever it annoys me as I know how hard the COC has worked to include everyone and keep them safe......I do think I got carried away a bit though.
Love my slippers and foot warmer, so warm and comfy......:-0 Hugs
Wendy, I have never had a more comfortable pair of slippers, wish I would of bought them earlier as they bring much warmth and comfort.
I think our Canadians have done so well as all athletes have....I do love the Olympics......:-) Hugs
Maggie, these slippers are the absolute best ever.....I have been told the nerve damage is done now so I have to live with the neuropathy, I do hope yours is different and will heal after treatment. Mine is a combination of treatment and being a diabetic.
All is well, I too worry about the people of Chile, what is going on with the world weather Maggie, it is frightening.......:-) Hugs
Valarie, neuropathy is nerve damage to the extremities and is caused by different things, in my case it was cancer treatment and then I am a diabetic....they slippers and foot warmer are absolutely wonderful.
...........:-) Hugs
Deborah, thank you. I do hope you come back oftern.....:-) Hugs
ED, they are not the most fashionable but oh they are so warm and comfortable....my feet are always so cold so I am not sure what they would be like in a warm weather climate.
Have a great day sweetie....:-) Hugs
Anne, they are the best, treat your feet to a pair, they will so love you for it.......:-) Hugs
Anne, the Olympics have been fantastic this year and I am going to go into withdrawals when they finish today.
Have a great Sunday.....:-) Hugs
It is so sad about this new earthquake. We will be praying about this here at my home too..I LOVE your slippers!! Stay cozy and warm :)
Love and hugs....Jerelene
Hi Di, these are most comfortable slippers ever and so soft and warm. I think having arthritis you would find these amazing and foot warmer is such a treat.
The media really make me angry Di as they only look for something negative to write about when there is so many good stories.....am watching hockey game now....:-) Hugs
A/C I am sure they love them as I do........just amazingly comfortable.
Media really got to me A/C, I think the Canadians have done so well and instead of standing up and being proud the media have to bring them down, I don't know of any other country who does this to their athletes......I am afraid I did get carried away a bit....am watching the game now, exciting eh!
.........:-) Hugs
Linda, I so love each athlete and each one has their own story, I think they are amazing.
I ordered my footwear online from a company in the States, I can get the address for you if you want. These are the most comfortable footwear I own other than my UGGS. I really need to be careful what I wear on my feet as I don't have much feeling in them and they are always freezing......:-) Hugs
Wanda, I was devastated when I heard about the earthquake in Chile, I am confused as to why all these national disasters are happening now.......so sad but was happy that the tsunami did not materialize.
Oh I was angry at the media, most countries are so proud of their athletes and when we bring ours down it upsets me. Sometime I feel that the press feels they must be negative to have something to say. I am watching hockey as I am catching up on my comments. I know I will be going through Olympic withdrawal tomorrow.
Love my new slipper and foot warmer, I should of purchased them earlier as they are so soft, warm and cosy.
Take care my friend, big hugs to Alivia.........:-) Hugs
Gaurav, thank you for your kind words......am so enjoying the Olympics.
The bootees and foot warmer are a real treat for sure....am loving every second I wear them.
Media has to know what the people will or will not tolerate, they have crossed too many boundaries.
Weather has been weird for sure, am praying for the people of Chile.
.........:-) hugs
ilovepink.....Happy Sunday to you as well, so glad you are able to relax today......:-) Hugs
Peggy, sometimes the media pushes my buttons especially when they pick on young people who have worked so hard for so many years with no chance to party or celebrate as they are always training, then when they have an opportunity the media really comes down in a miserable fashion.
I am so sad for the people of Chile, but am so thankful that the devastation is not as severe as Haiti.
I am so enjoying this afternoons hockey game, right on the edge of my seat......:-) Hugs
Terri, neuropathy is nerve damage done to the extremeities, due to cancer treatments and often found in diabetics.....can be and is very painful. Feet and hands are freezing all the time so these slippers and foot warmer are amazing...should of purchased them a long time ago. I bought them online from a company in the States, I can get the address for you if you want.....yes they are expensive but well worth it to me.
I am on the edge of my seat watching hockey right now...exciting for sure.
........:-) Hugs
Kay, absolutely...the little things bring the most comfot for sure.....treat yourself to a pair, they are wonderful.....:-) Hugs
Hi Sarah, they are so wonderful and I am so blessed to have them.
Take care my friend....:-) Hugs
Eileen, I really did over react a bit re the press, but they really annoyed me.
I am watching the hockey game now, very exciting. I'm sure it will be Olympic withdrawal for me tomorrow.
I love my slippers and foot warmer, they are so comfortable and warm.....treat yourself to a pair. Big hugs to Jayden and Mia, Happy Sunday.......:-) Hugs
Hi Bernie
Gosh, your slippers look so comfy and cozy!
Enjoy them my friend!
I have enjoyed the olympics!
So very sad about the earthquake in Chile.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Mine was very busy, just got home from Denver a little while ago.
I think we are going to get some snow.

Hi Margie, hope you had a wonderful time in Denver....oh not more snow, we need Spring.
I love my slippers and foot warmer, just the best.
I will be in rehab tomorrow going through withdrawal from the Olympics especially after the great hockey game this afternoon.
Stay warm sweetie......:-) Hugs
Hi Beth, I am just putting my oxygen mask away after that hockey game.......it was so exciting and could of gone either way....oh I have to say I am happy we won.
Love my slippers and foot warmer Beth, so comfortable.
Have a great week......:-) Hugs
Lovely slippers. They look really warm and comfortable.
Here in the UK it is still very cold and plenty of snow too. Some melting snow is now causing flooding.
God bless you Bernie.
Hi Jerelene, almost missed your comment, so excited over the hockey game.
Oh yes I said a special prayer at Mass this morning for the people of Chile.....this weather is so weird.
I really love my slippers and foot warmer all sheep skinned lined. They are so comfortable, I wish I could get everyone I love a pair.
.......:-) Hugs
Victor, I visited you a short time ago, I am really looking forward to reading your book.
I do love my slippers, so warm and soft.
I hope your weather clears and the sun shines soon.....Spring is on its way my friend.
God Bless........:-) Hugs
Bernie,
I so agree with you on your view of the Olympics..and congrats on the Hockey win tonight! That was a wonderful game and they all (both teams) played so hard.
Canada did a wonderful job on these Olympics, you should be very proud.
I love your footwear....if you keep your feet warm, your whole body stays warmer!!! It is not an indulgence, don't waste a moment more feeling guilty...you so deserve those items!!!!!
I couldn't believe it when I heard about Chile after the Haiti earthquakes....it makes me frightened for our planet and makes me wonder what is going on with it...
Love to you and I hope you have a wonderful upcoming week!
Hi Joan, I thought that was the best hockey game I have ever seen and I have seen so many. Both teams were excellent and it was such a shame to see one have to loose.
I love my new slippers and foot warmer Joan, they are so comfortable, warm and cosy.
I feel terrible about Chile, what is going on with our planet, I am wondering if that killer whale could sense this earthquake which may have caused him to freak out, I have read that all animals can sense these things. I don't know really Joan, it just went through my mind.
Have a wonderful week.....:-) Hugs
Hi Bernie! I was at church at choir practice when the score was tied...2 to 2...Canada vs USA.
I t hought of you immediately and thought, "Bernie is going to be beside herself!"
One of our choir member's husband texted her and told her that Canada had won in overtime....and of course I was disappointed...but excited for you and for your country. Congratulations, my friend. I have to admit that I didn't watch the Olympics with one exception: the women's figure skating competition. I always enjoy watching that.
Your slippers look wonderful.
I hope that your week is a good one. I wanted to extend my congratulations to Canada and to one of its biggest fans....my dear friend, Bernie on winning the gold tonight in hockey.
Love to you, my friend.
Jackie
Bernie, Ooh that is nice, I bet they are so warm I seen and have a pair of Huggs but never seen the other one. I hope it makes you feel special and fussy all over. With the weather you have over there. As for the Olympics I thought their comments are out of control who cares how people celebrate I think the reporter is jeoulouse bet his never won anything in his life only a big mouth. hheheh lol. Have a great day my friend.
Maria
Jackie, I almost had a heart attack, it was one of the best games ever. Honestly though they should of had gold medals for both teams as USA played fantastic and I thought their goaltender (Miller) was better than ours....having said that I was happy we won.
Love my new slippers and foot warmer Jackie, so warm and cozy. Should of bought them a long time ago.
Take care sweetie, have a wonderful week.......:-0 Hugs
Maria, hi sweetie, great hearing from you......yes that reporter really got under my skin but I am over it now. The games were great.
I so love my slippers and foot warmer, they are so cozy and warm.
Have a great week my friend....Hugs
Bernie, Thank you for the sweet comment you left on my blog about taking baby steps without Amber. We are not always strong ... we do have our moments .. me especially!
I often wondered how mothers go on with the passing of a child. Now I know ... God gives you the strength! The only peace I have is knowing that we will see each other again one day. Oh how wonderous that day will be !!! Until then I carry on for Jennifer and her new husband. There are new memories to be made but never will Amber be forgotten ... she was sent to us for nearly 30 years and she was such a blessing! I miss her sooo much!
Blessings,
Donna
Donna, I know how much you miss Amber and of course you have your moments, you always will. I think you are doing wonderfully and I admire your strength and courage to keep going for the sake of your family. Amber will always be a part of your life forever......big hugs sweetie, xo
I was proud of all the athletes and the Canadians really getting on board with the Olympics. Love your slippers and feet warmers. take care Bernie, c
hat's off to you for praising the athletes. They have worked for years to compet. The news media, in my opinion, have gone nuts. I think they are doinng everything but good reporting,,to get their ratings up..It aint working with me.. thnx,,
Hi Cinner, it is so nice out today, am going into the city in ah hour.
I loved the hockey game and I thought Canada were excellent host.
Love my new slippers so much, I wish I could supply everyone I love with a pair, they are just so comfortable......:-) Hugs
glnroz, the press and news media have really loss their way, they have made everything about themselves or their own opinions not giving due process to the facts. Such a shame.....as it used to be such a well respected profession.
I thought all of the athletes were wonderful, I so love their disipline and abilities.....:-)Hugs
Hello, dearest Bernie!!! What wonderful foot warmers!!!!Good for you!! So delighted...and your thoughts about the Olympics and Chile once again demonstrate the wonderful, warm and generous heart that we have all come to know and love!!! Love you so much, Bernie! Janine XO
I love slippers and I love yours!! Hope they keep you feet toasty!
i like the slippers too. Very nice. I am not sure why they were so hard on the women's hockey team. I think it was because some of the players were under age. One woman suggested the medal be taken off them but I thought that was ridiculous. They won it and just celebrated after.
I think Canada did a fantastic job on hosting the games. I
I feel for those who are suffering so many tragedies while I am comfortable at home but all I can do is pray for them.
Take care....
Janine, oh how I have missed you. I have been keeping up with your wonderful paintings through Facebook, and am in awe of your amazing talent.......:-) Hugs
Kimberly, oh yes my new slippers are the most comfortable slippers I have ever owned, so soft and warm. I absolutely love them.
Have a great day........:-) Hugs
Garnet, my heart and prayers are with everyone in Chile....we are so blessed to be safe and warm in our comfortable homes.....
So love my slippers, I bought them from an American company online.
Yes the press was brutal with our women's hockey team, I think it bothered their fans more than them really.....they apologized and moved on, that is another trait of Canadians. They forgive easily.
........:-) Hugs
Bernie, did u get a chance to go through this:
http://fakegaurav.blogspot.com/2010/01/open-letter-to-my-son.html

DEAR BERNIE,
IN REGARDS TO YOUR POST "SADNESS, FRUSTRATION AND LUXURY," HUGS...HUGS....HUGS....
I LOVE THE SLIPPERS...I HAVE LOWER AND UPPER NEUROPATHY...I COMPARE IT TO 1,000 BEES STINGING YOU ONE AFTER THE OTHER IN DIFFERENT PLACES. I TAKE 2 PILLS FOR IT.
I LOVE THE OLYMPICS...I'M SORRY THE USA LOST THE HOCKEY GAME BUT HAPPY FOR CANADA AS THEY EARNED IT...WHAT AN EXCITING GAME.
BERNIE, THE MEDIA LOOKS FOR ANYTHING NEGATIVE AND THEN RUNS WITH IT. I ONLY WISH THEIR COACH WOULD HAVE STEPPED FORWARD AND DEFENDED THEM AS THIS WAS TRADITION.
MY HEART WAS WITH THE BEAUTIFUL CANADIAN GIRL WHO TOOK THE BRONZE....AFTER HER MOTHER HAD DIED OF A HEART ATTACK GETTING OFF THE PLANE TO THE OLYMPICS. SHE JUST WON MY HEART.
MY PRAYERS ARE SUREDLY WITH THE PEOPLE OF CHILE. WE ARE SO FORTUNATE HERE.
LOVE YOU BERNIE
