New Computer

August 14, 2010

Hello my friends, well I wasn't having enough trouble with Blogger so I decided to purchase a new laptop. Oh yeah.....why not? I might as well learn it all at once. I just didn't stop at my laptop, I also purchased a printer/scanner/copier and a Sirius radio for my living room and my car. Honestly for 3 days I have had boxes all over my living room as I read and re-read manuals. I am not a techie at all.....don't know why I even attempt to do what I do. It only took me 2 hours to find a spot for the antenna.....errrrrrrrrr
I had one given to me by my friend and when she mentioned her son was looking for one now I automatically said take this to him and I will get myself one, well she didn't want too but I insisted. I hardly watch TV now instead I am listening to talk radio, it is so much fun. Where do they get these guys, it is like "what is your favorite day of the week, the guy says Friday and he automatically says, your saying you don't like Sunday's, the guy tries to explain and he says you just said Friday was your favourite day." I want to be a talk show host, they have so much fun interpreting words.......so look out for "On Air with Bernie" okay.

I downloaded my pictures from my camera into Picasa as I always do, but Picasa is on my other laptop. I have to figure out how to keep my album all together. Think I will download them to a CD then upload them on this computer. Half the time I don't know what I'm doing and just back into it when everything turns out right. Thanks Di, your instructions are really good. I think I am going to like this new editor once I figure all the buttons out. The sample showed a stats button on dashboard but it didn't show up when I actually arrived here. Oh well it is wait and see time anyway.....gosh only knows where this post will actually show up. I just  checked preview and it is a blank page. Honestly I have to get a life, all I have been doing is playing on machines for 3 days.

My friend Terry was in for a couple of days and had her procedure done, I am happy to say she did excellent and everything is fine.....phew! Her and I did all the shopping on Monday.

I was able to show you a picture of my hanging basket taken today, I wanted to show the first day I hung it so you all could see the difference but that picture is in another program in another computer. Gosh this is fun.

Dr. John says I have to walk 10,000 steps a day, well I got a pedometer and honestly on my best and busiest days I am under 2000 steps. Trust me between all these new machines I have walked all over the place plus I went for a 45 minute walk yesterday. Still can't get close to what he wants me do. I thought it would be easy but I also thought I took more steps obviously. Am going to try and crank it up next week.

Sorry I didn't respond to all your comments, (I so love them) but half the time I wasn't sure where I was or what computer I was on......at times I even made myself laugh trying to undo what I did.  I think I have everything under control now or hope so anyway. Life, especially blogging, is going to be fun again....yes it is I am sure.

I do hope you all have a great week, sending you all ......... many, many hugs.

  1. Oh, Bernie, even I (being the techi that I am) took awhile to get used to having two computers (my desktop and my laptop) and trying to figure out the system for my photos...but I have it now.

Glad to have you back on a roll and hope it all comes together for you...running smoothly as you learn it all :)

  2. Bernie, you weren't kidding when you said your hanging flower was enormous! But tell me you are kidding about talk radio, those guys make me want to put them in time out...the arguing! Herhusband listens to some! Glad you can post photos now, Bernie. Wished we lived close enough to walk together. It's 852 steps up and back from Alivia's mailbox, I try to do it morning and evening, every little bit helps. The storm I mentioned in the email brought awfully heavy rain!

  4. HiBernie, glad you are getting all the boxes organized,,,,I have been having some issues here, maybe it is time I need a new one, lol. I will call you for help. Your hanging basket still looks beautiful. Today I pulled 3 big black garbage bags of flowers that came down in a storm last week. At least it is looking a bit better out there. well have fun with all your doing. hugs to you, enjoy your day.

  5. Good for you ole gal. Sometimes I feel intimidated by something I want to learn to do, but it is fun to just charge on. There is always some one in our wonderful cybergroup willing to help out. I want to learn how to do separate pages for different topics. Enjoy

  6. Glad your friend is much improved and you've been out shopping. Fun stuff! My laptop is still at the Apple store and I'm using hubby's big Apple, lol. He is having trouble receiving his e-mails - from his sales on E-bay - and we haven't changed or messed with anything. Can't figure this out. Hubby is a scholar, not a techy, so I'm trying to help as much as I'm able. It's all very frustrating, arghhhhh.

Have a lovely week-end! It was a great day today!

Let me know when On the Air with Bernie will be on! Love the idea! You sound like a fun person and I need those in my life!

  8. Wanda, I would so love to live closer to be able to walk together each day, I love how you know the number of steps to Alivia's mail box. Yes,just fooling about talk radio, I am just amazed these people get paid so much to sound so stupid. Everyone knows everything when in reality no one knows anything. One needs a lot of patience as well as a good sense of humor......I do enjoy BBC and also CBC as well as many others. We had a huge storm the other night as well, my e-mail server was down for over 24 hours but they are crediting us $10.00 on next billing.......big hugs to Alivia.....:-)

  10. Hi cinner, that storm was something else, did you loose your e-mail, Telus called on Wednesday saying we would be getting a $10.00 credit bill next month....my hanging baskets have done well, I think its because they are protected under the eves but the others are not so great....:-)Hugs

Don't worry about answering comments...be free and just do what you want for a while..it feels really good to do that now and then.
Glad your friend's procedure turned out good so you won't have to worry anymore....
and I am so happy you are having a fun summer.
Hey, if you want that pedometer to go up in numbers, c'mon down to the U.P and we will go for a hike in the woods...ha

  18. Hi Bernie!
I am so glad that you got the new computer! Did you get the 17 in screen? I love mine. I can't understand why your preview didn't show up?
Jake listens to Sirius all day long while in the truck. He loves Radio Classics. I like what ever music I'm in the mood for!
I loved your flower basket, it was huge!
I'm sure that you'll get the photos figured out soon. You sound so excited, I could hear it in your post!! Love Di ♥

  19. I still have problems with my laptop. I am often hitting a key I am nt familiar with and last week I hit the number lock key and it took me three hours to figure out why all I could type was numbers on it. The flowers are lovely.

10,000 steps is alot. Good luck with that one.

  20. HI BERNIE

I so applaud your courage with the new lap top and uploads and downloads and transferring and CD's, and my goodness - you are brave. And I love the idea of you being a "A Talk Radio Host" - Oh yes!!!
Your hanging basket is beautiful, just like you.
And good news about your friend's procedure. phew.

  28. Take your time with all the new electronics-- it can be overwhelming, but this posts looks great and so does your gorgeous flower basket-- Is this the one you mentioned the other day? It's perfect.

10,000 is a lot of steps but a good goal. I doubt I do even half of that in a day. Maybe I'll get a pedometer too and find out!

Good luck with the new laptop!

  29. If you are on talk radio by golly then I will be listening :)
You are cracking me up today! So glad you are having fun with all your machines and I am beginning to think you are far more techie than you realize ;)

10,000 steps a day ~ WOW I would say you are doing pretty good! Did you ask your Dr. if he has ever done that many steps in a day LOL

Have a wonderful weekend my dear friend :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Joanna,if you get a pedometer I would be anxious to learn how many steps you take a day....I just can't see myself ever reaching 10,000.
Yes this is my front door basket, I don't think this picture does it justice but it is lovely, my baskets did well but the others not so great.
    Have a great Sunday.....:-)Hugs

  31. Loren, I even cracked myself up this week, it was unbelievable really and sometimes so funny.
I beginning to think a bloggie radio station could be fun with all the different personalities we have in our community.
    Have a great Sunday....:-) Hugs

  32. I hope you can keep it all straight, Bernie, but knowing you, you'll figure it all out in the end. You are the eternal optimist, after all. Things always do work out for you. You certainly try hard enough and put your heart and soul into a project. I hope you can get your Picasa web album on your new laptop too. It shouldn't be too hard.

    Hugs!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Nora, I have put 3 days into this stuff and I need a bit of a break but only need to do a couple of more things before it is all completed. How are you my friend, wishing you a great Sunday....Hugs

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Bernie, first of all let me say I think you're doing great. Don't worry too much about what's on which computer, it will all be there when you're ready to look for it. I'm fortunate enough to have a remote plug-in hard drive onto which EVERYTHING goes. Thus, when I change laptops I don't have any worries, I just plug it in and VOILE! Even though you struggle you still manage to write about it in humorous fashion. Hugs for a brave girl...smiles.

  35. A step counter! What a great idea. I might just get myself one. I am going on a diet, so will need to exercise properly. I have really let things go this last couple of years. My holicay photos were of another woman, but then I realised it was me!!! Aaaagh.
You sound pretty technical to me, Bernie, and you look mechanically minded too, sitting behind the wheel of that sports car. Well done!

    oops! nearly forgot the (((hug)))

  36. enjoy your new laptop...i keep my picture on photobucket and flickr, this way i can access them from any computer...doesn't picasa have online storage too ?

  38. Hi Bernie, Your hanging plant is lovely. I have just ferns hanging
but I have lots of flowering plants in pots around the yard.

I know what you mean about the computer problems...I have those also. I have to call on my sons to help me out. (my daughters are just as lame as me on the computer!)

But, I am glad you are back. I enjoy reading you and let me know when your talk radio spot is up and running! (wink)

  39. Someone told me to get "Serious" radio, but I'd rather not. I need to stay lighthearted.

  40. Are you sure your pedometer is working? I usually make my 10000 steps just in my normal routine. I've tried some pedometers that don't calculate every step...which sounds like you have. A 5 minute walk registers about 500 steps on mine,so you should have register about 4500 just for that 45 min walk alone!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow Bernie...look at you! I think you are a techi! : ) ((((HUGS))) T

  58. Well done about solving the computer problems.
I am getting a new computer soon. Mine must be a male because it cannot mult-task and is very slow and can think of only one thing at a time. I am getting a lady computer with a dual core processor and she will be able to handle Eddie much better and keep him in order! LOL.
Problem is she will have a large memory so she will not be able to forget my antics.

Your doctor has demanded by my estimation that you walk about 4.75 miles a day, assuming each step is about 30 inches. Quite an order. Best wishes with it. Just what I need for my legs/feet. Pity we can't stroll together.
Radio is MUCH MUCH better than TV. We can use our imaginations again!!! Would love to try to break in there somehow with short humorous stories.
    Speak soon ~ Eddie

  59. I am sure you will have all the wires uncrossed/untangled/unplugged all in good time! I dread getting new thingys but I do find I enjoy trying to get it all to work, and when I do, celebrate! Have a wonderful week!

  61. Eddie. Dr. John based my 10,000 steps on 12 inches each, I think it is far out of my reach but I am going to keep trying. I do love the radio, I get BBC1 which I totally enjoy (especially the accents) Have a great week my friend.....:-) Hugs

  67. "On Air With Bernie" sounds like a lot of fun to me. I would listen and I do not watch any TV. We don't have cable or any way to watch TV, we do not like TV. Isn't that cool that both hubby and I don't watch TV? I think you hit it on the head when you listened to talk radio, you "hear" more when it is radio I think and you catch nuances that are slipped by on TV. I picture with all the boxes in the living room. All that would be too much for me all at one time I think. You are a brave girl!!

  68. Hi Bernie. My name is Gerry, new follower. I laughed nearly all through your post. I can relate to all of it..haa. Sometimes, on my laptop, I can't find a file I am looking for and then it hits me. It is in my desktop. I have to get up and go there. grrr - (I realize it is good for me to get up). I go to my desktop and add it to my flash drive and take it back to my laptop...ha. I wanted to make a public folder on my network so everything would be there, accessible to both computers. I don't know how. I don't know how to make such a beautiful round ball of flowers like yours either.
Gerry ~ South East USA. ps: I will be tuned in for On air with Bernie!

  70. Oh Bernie, how brave you are to try all these new things. I must confess that I get help whenever I post pictures especially. My pictures will not go where I want them to go and I don't know how to fix it. Either Julie or Jim fixes it for me. But don't tell anyone!!!

Thank you for your kind words and all your visits. So far Iam doing O.k. but Jim leaves this week and then we shall see how I do.

I'm glad you mentioned walking 10,000 steps. It's too hot here yet, and I've fallen off the wagon as far exercise goes. Climb back on!

  99. too funny Bernie! I am so NOT computer savvy and I work on a computer all day long. I bought a back up thingy to put all my pictures on from my computer to "free" up space...I only have over 10,000 pictures..lol I really need to go through them, so, anyway, I can't figure out the darn back-up thingy that is how computer dummy I am LOL. Oh well, I will just keep trying. It will eventually all work out I guess. Isn't is crazy! I think you are an amazing woman "on your own" to do what you do. I only pray that if I am ever in the "on my own" circumstance that I can be as independent as you! love and hugs and smiles!

  100. I love that you have all new toys and that you READ the manuals! That is where I go wrong!!...enjoy!!:)

  101. Wow, I'm quite impressed that you're doing all of this "on your own."

    I certainly couldn't.

Your flower is magnificent and looks perfect hanging there from the eave.

Lots of luck with all your new equipment and with the new Blogger, too. I still get lost on it sometimes!

  103. Hi Bernie,

Congratulations on your new computer! That is fun! 10,000 steps is hard to do. I too, only get around 2,000 unless I do a lot of extra exercise. Good Luck with the new technology!

  104. I highly recommend a memory stick rather than cds. You plug it in and go to "my computer" to see it there. It may be called drive F or something removable. You can just drag and drop your whole file on top of that and it will load onto the memory stick. Then take it and load it onto your new computer.

  107. so you're saying you don't like sundays?
that made me laugh loudly. it's so true. the banter is so predictable. i'm embarrassed to say that i listen to those sport shows on the radio (only from time to time:), and they have that adversarial banter the same way, only it's funny to hear sports talk like that and frustrating when it comes to politics, at least for me.

must be fun to have new gadgets to learn and use. boxes all over. like christmas. almost.

    have fun:)

  108. Ed, honestly almost every talk show is the same, not about informing but giving their own opinions. It is so bad it is funny, well to me anyway.
Yes it was like Cristmas for awhile......:-)Hugs

  113. Hi Bernie

you are a wizard...I think that you can download Picassa free of charge so you can have it on both laptops...and yes use flash drive sticks for backup not CDs they hold oodles more or get a bigger capacity external hard drive device to back up on.
I love the flower ball, rather like a globe...

    Happy days
