Catching Up

Terri is a blogger although it has been a while since she has posted. In fact Terri was one of the original members of "The Village". I truly miss this group of blogging friends, so many have decided blogging wasn't for them.   She lives near by and we met today for lunch, It was great seeing her as it has been a while and I was so pleased. She is doing so much better than she had been. I love knowing my friends are happy and healthy.

We had a great weather today. After lunch I went and picked up my hanging baskets and some potted plants. It is time as I don't think we will have any more frost. We did have some last week. Our weather is so weird.....who knows what it will be like tomorrow. I have spent a couple of days outside this week just raking and cleaning the yards. It was the worst I have seen it, the winter and all the storms had blown in more garbage and pine needles than I remember. It looks much better now.

I picked up my computer today, they wanted almost $800. to repair it to its original state and they were unable to save my pictures. My nephew knew I used the Picasa program for my pictures and told me to check there and sure enough they were there - all.of.them. Thank you Lord.  I wasn't going to pay that much to repair my old laptop anyway as I just bought a new one a few months ago, I only wanted my photos so I brought the old one back home to be recycled.

I have only met with 2 cancer patients this month, they both are going to be fine I just know it. I said to one of them, nine years ago I was sitting right where you are and look at me now. "This is where you will be sitting in nine years.  I have so much faith and hope for both of these patients. I have slowed down, cut back if you will from the cancer community. I became so involved and so close to every one and this winter five of them passed away, each death broke my heart, it was a painful time. I needed to break away for a while and I am only now putting my toe back in the water. I will always be connected to those suffering from this horrid disease but I also feel it is time to begin volunteering or helping in other ways. Perhaps working with seniors or children. As long as I am with people I am happy and there are so many out there who needs a warm smile and a gentle hug. Helping others makes volunteers happy, especially when they appreciate the extra time and attention a volunteer is willing to give. This world is not all about us, it is about giving and sharing ones time, love and resources with others who are not as fortunate or who need a hand up. Honestly I don't have time for people who only want a hand out. I think I would like to work with those suffering from Autism, not only the children but their parents need some time and attention as well. It is something I am seriously thinking about any way. Seniors are another group I love spending time with even if it is just to drive them to a doctor's appointment or to pick up groceries. It really does feel good to help others, I have been blessed with so many helping me through my bad times, no it is not pay back time it is pay it forward time,

Okay off to prepare for the weekend which just may be a surprising one. Hope you are all doing well, enjoying the late Spring and soon to be Summer. Keeping you all in my prayers and as usual sending tons of hugs...............:-)

So fun to see your post. Yes, weather has been most strange. We have August weather in June - every day now. Hope your winter will be delayed since so long this year.

Giving of oneself - glad you stepped back for a while. Sometimes we need that regrouping of self. Often times - even though I feel guilty. Be good to yourself.

HiBernie. First off, the weather... believe it or believe it not there was snow in Scotland yesterday. Other than that there's a serious draught in the UK. Water, we need water :O)

I'm so pleased to hear you're considering different volunteering work. I felt you were getting too overwrought with the recent tragic losses. You're a wonderful person and I know you'll be a great asset to whatever cause you choose. I know the value of being a volunteer, I was one for very many years. My work didn't involve illness though, I don't think I'd have had the stamina for that.

God bless you, my dear friend.

Hi Bernie, second attempt at leaving a comment! First off, the weather. Believe it or not, Scotland had snow yesterday. Other than that there is a major drought problem here in the UK. We need water!

I was pleased to read that you are considering another form of volunteer work. I felt you were getting overwrought with the tragic losses. You're a wonderful person and I know you'll be a great asset in whatever cause you undertake. I know the value of volunteering, I was one for very many years.

God bless you, dear friend, hugs from me.

So good to see a photo of you and Terri together at lunch, you both look wonderful...I miss the Village too!

The giving of yourself in volunteer work is such a part of your caring personality, Bernie. I know how stressful it was for a time though.

Several thunderstorms have left us with lots of yard cleanup...over and over. It's been a strange spring here too.

Enjoy your flowers and weekend, Bernie!

Happy to see the picture of you and Terri! Happy to see YOU! Happy to hear you're thinking "frost free" for a while! One of these days, you'll have to show us your hanging baskets.

Any/all of your ideas for volunteering sound wonderful, Bernie. Personally, I do some senior citizen volunteering (all the while thinking I'm pretty much one myself...)

I know you'll find a niche.

We're hoping to leave early this morning to take in some "mass" garage sales held annually at a lake community. Whether we buy anything or not is secondary to the beauty of the lake :)

I wrote a long comment but don't remember if I "sent it off" properly. Sometimes my fingers get ahead of me.

I'm not going to rewrite it all...just saying I'm glad you're back, saved your pictures, are enjoying a new computer, have some hanging baskets, are considering new volunteering ops, got to see Terri, etc.

Your positive attitude and caring spirit are refreshing indeed. We too are enjoying the spring weather and the lawn is shaping up and flowers are blossoming from the seeds we planted in flower beds a few weeks ago. Life is good.

Hi Bernie! A beautiful post from a beautiful lady! Yours is the first post that I read this morning, and I am so glad that it was as it has put a smile on my face that will remain with me all day long! Your positive attitude and your spirit of giving is so inspiring, so motivating, so wonderful - thank you for that! I have to agree with you about volunteering. As I come to the realization the work is not in my near future, my thoughts are turning more and more to how can I give back? I have thought about calling one of the NCIU units at the hospitals to see about holding little premature babies.

It is looking a little "iffy" out there in terms of the weather - I sure hope the sun comes out!

Have a wonderful weekend Bernie. I am so happy to hear that you are gently easing your way back into the cancer community - we need your positive spirit!

So pleased you got your pictures back via Picasa.

Whatever you decide to do, Bernie in the voluntary capacity, I am sure you will be much needed and provide an excellent service.
There is so much to choose from out there.
You are a treasure.

Yes, our weather has been strange! Did you get the thunderstorm up your way last night and the downpour? It had not even been all that hot yesterday! --- Oh, our Melissa would really love for you to volunteer with autistic children. Check out my blog for connecting with her. We're so glad they moved to Edmonton and we get to see them more often! Blessings on you for a wonderful week-end!

That is wonderful that you were able to have lunch with a blogger friend. I hope someday to meet some of mine.
It takes a very special person to work with Autistic children and one with a big heart. The children and their families will be happy that you are there for them.
Nice to see you at my blog.
Enjoy your weekend.

I volunteered for Hospice in Colorado for two years and had to quit because I just couldn't handle losing all those wonderful people. I know I shouldn't have allowed myself to get so attached, but I just couldn't help it.

I really love volunteering, though, and you have given me some good ideas! You are a very special and caring person, Bernie. I'm glad to know you...

I agree, it's time for a change in your volunteer direction. I can see you working with just about anybody, you have such a huge heart.

And congratulations on the photos! I lost a lot of mine once, but luckily they were just ones that I had scanned from originals in an album. It was definitely a wake-up call!

Thank goodness that you still have your pictures after all. Smart nephew!

Glad you retrieved your pictures too!
You are so right about volunteering. I always say you get more in return than you give when helping others.
It has been so HOT here with temps hitting 100. Wish I had some of your weather!

Hi Bernie, I always love seeing your smiling face and am glad to hear Terri is doing well. Your heart is in the right place, Bernie - you're a volunteer extraordinaire! Still have snow in Breckenridge, but it's finally melting so I can see the ground at some places. Take a pic of your planters to show us.

The weather has been wacko here, too - in the nineties one day, the fifties the next. Who knows what will come next, we've had crazy weather all year :)

Bernie, referring to your comment earlier on the speaking in tongues - speak in tongues you surely do, my friend. Yours is the language of love and it's the best gift of all. God bless you, Bernie :)

Bernie, I have been woefully behind in reading any blogs for weeks and weeks and tonight I decided to go down the list and read as many as I could before midnight. I was getting sleepy and decided to go one more down my bloglist of postings and there you were! It was fate. LOL So,so glad to see you posting and that you are fine. I so wish we lived closer,as I belong to a group that helps Seniors volunteer for all kinds of things (travel for medical appointments, meals on wheels, etc.) and you would be so good to have in the group....you'd be PERFECT. You are such a sweetheart, they would eat you up with a spoon. You have such a generous spirit in giving of your time and heart. Thank you so much for what you do for everyone in your life and in your community.
How is your granddaughter doing?
Miss you and please know you are in my thoughts often.xxoo

Oh Bernie....I just love you and your sweet heart! I know that no matter who you are with is blessed by you. i am with you though, I LOVE working with the older people, listening to them, being with them. Sometimes, it might be their only interaction for a while and that just breaks my heart!
Sooo glad you were able to save your pics! Such a blessing indeed!
We have been sooo unusually HOT for this early in the summer! Almost 100 already. but you know what..I will take heat over cold any day of the year!! :)

Love you my friend!

I enjoy reading your blog so much! You have a little bit about everything on it, and I absolutely love that! Great idea about the volunteer work, and about focusing it on autism later on in the future - you're right about the parents needing help too! I believe we're put on this earth for a purpose - if something is calling out to you, DO IT!! It's things like those that you will never regret. And have fun with it!! Happy and healthy wishes sent to you!

Oh, this was such a treat to see a picture of both you and Teresa! I love it!

I understand about your volunteering, sometimes after you experience so much loss you have to take a step back. I think the idea of working with Seniors or children is a wonderful idea too. I enjoyed going to the nursing home when my Mom was there and greeting the other patients, they especially got excited when I had Jayden along with me.
And for many years I volunteered as a helper in a Kindergarten class, and then I worked in a Kindergarten classroom for years, and it was so much fun.
I was going to volunteer in a local nursing home but now with another baby coming into the household I guess my time will be occupied otherwise.

You look and sound wonderful, Bernie. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!
Love and Prayers,
Eileen
PS ~ The Village was wonderful! And I'm hoping one day we're all "living" there again at the same time! Or at least have a reunion once in awhile!

You have the biggest heart of any person I know. I could not imagine anyone being so kind as giving as you are.

I have all my pictures on photobucket or Snapfish.com. I am glad you could find all yours.

Awesome that you could meet your friend. I would like to have one that is close enough that I could have lunch with her but I am not that lucky.

god bless you for the work you do and take care.

I'm mot sorry you pressed the wrong button, but I wish it had sent some pics with it. I understand from reading the other comments that you lost all your pictures and then got them back. I am so glad.

Changing your volunteer emphasis is a good idea. I can empathize with your desire for change. Whatever you do will be an asset to whatever it is, so go for it.

Wow it was so nice seeing the photo of you and Terrie Bernie. You both looked great and happy!
I haven't given up blogging just yet. Just had to take a break. My son and his wife separated recently and it's sort of shook up the family dynamic if you know what I mean? I just need some time to get into a comfortable position again.
So good to hear that you were able to save your photos. And glad you are doing well. I've missed all of my friends. Especially you Bernie!
Love Di ♥

good to hear you are putting your toe back in the water. sometimes we nee breaks from doing such work. it is joyful work, but it also work. being present to those who have difficult lives requires a certain amount and shade of energy.

i'm having difficulty with my laptop, too. and the estimates to fix it don't exactly thrill me either.

have a great weekend. you do amazing work. people are drawn to you and derive energy and love from you, that's really clear.

Hi Bernie, Glad it's hanging basket time again. I remember your post from last year with those gorgeous flowers-- You have such a green thumb!

Glad you got to spend time with a fellow blogger. I've noticed a lot of bloggers dropping off the map lately and not posting. Maybe it's summer maybe they're burned out, who knows, but it's nice to catch up with long timers.

Bless you for supporting cancer patients. I'm sure your kindness and positive attitude means the world to them.

Have a great weekend. I'll be watching for photos of your baskets. xo jj

Happy belated birthday to you! I too love your heart Bernie! I did not know you are a cancer survivor. I can just imagine what a tole it takes when you get so close to people and then lose them. I think you are wise to step back and all your ideas for volunteering are wonderful ones! I'm interested in autism also, it just intrigues me for some reason. I'm SO thankful you got your pictures and I can't imagine paying $800 to fix a computer...so glad your nephew thought of a way! Glad to see you blogging again! I'm trying to step up a little myself...
