My Word for 2011

Hello my friends, I so hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday. It is such a magical time of year.

I had a lovely holiday, except for battling a horrible cold, but seriously I enjoyed time with family and friends and spent time at church. With Christmas and New Year's being on Saturday this year, I found myself at Mass the past 2 Saturdays and Sundays. Also we had reconciliation Christmas week. Everyone is in such a good mood during the holidays, the children were all bathed and bubbling over with excitement waiting for Santa, the fir trees surrounding the alter not only glittered with soft lights but smelled so good. I am full of great food and fine wines. I have enjoyed every second with the people I love and now I am ready to face the thrills and challenges of 2011.

I love the beginning of a New Year, it is filled with so much hope and expectation. Personally I try not to have to many expectations, I like to take one day at a time - enjoy it and move forward. I love the calm, peace and loved shared when the New Year arrives......I wish you all a wonderful New Year filled with love, health and happiness.

My word for this year is "discipline" and boy this is going to be a challenge. Not only do I need discipline to say no to more chocolate, but to say no to people who try and speak for me, I can speak for myself thank you very much. My friend and I have joined weight watchers, I need to loose 22 pounds, my friend 57 and I honestly cannot imagine her with this weight loss, she isn't all that big now, in fact she is such a happy person one only sees her smile not the weight but we will support each other as we work towards our goal. Our meetings are Monday nights, it has to be a life change for me......I know I will feel better for it, wish me luck okay.

We still have tons of snow but it has warmed up a bit, at least for today. Have a great week everyone,

God Bless and many, many hugs.......:-)

Bernie,
Glad you are feeling better!
I love chocolate too and have eaten so many sweets during the holidays :)
I need discipline for the New Year on my organization skills. I have been working on decluttering. It's the only goal I set for myself this year.
Stay warm!
Hugs,
Donna

Goodness. Discipline is always on my list as well. I fail over and over. I am also trying--again--to lose some weight. I have not yet joined WW but it is on my "To Do" list. It is such a big battle for me. I am thankful to be well and have food available. We are blessed. I wish you well this 2011.

Hi Donna, I think discipline is going to be very challenging for me, I usually float around in my own little world saying yes to everything......should be fun. Am keeping a daily writtn journal on it as well.......:-)Hugs

Bernie said...

Brenda, I so know how you feel although last year I have gained more weight than I usually do, nothing fits me anymore. I too feel so blessed to have abundance, wishing you and your family a wonderful 2011....:-)Hugs

One of Regina Brett's quotations circulated worldwide included this, " When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile."

Disipline is a good thing to have, i'll say. ;D

Oh Silver, it is a good thing I just don't have any but I am working on it.....:-)Hugs

Good for you Bernie, I think that is an excellent choice for you. It is always better going with a friend. discipline is a good word for sure. so did you start tonight. please keep us posted as to how you are making out with it. hugs and love to you.

You speak up for yourself Bernie! You speak a lot of sense, as far as I am concerned so you don't need others saying how it is for ya!

Discipline is one of my key words for 2011. To do with prayer, food, activities in general. I am really determined. And with the support of good friends online (yourself included) and getting to bed early, I should improve. I can stay on the laptop way too long at night. I want to lose weight, but not sure how much. I must stop my sugar cravings........

We'll all be super models by 2012 ( well, maybe not quite....)

Hugs and laughs to you x

Hi Bernie.. I'm glad you had a lovely Christmas despite having a terrible cold.. I had a lovely Christmas too.
Discipline.. now that is a word I didn't have on my list this year, I think I should add it.
I wish you luck Bernie & may the New Year be a wonderful one for you.

Sometimes it's a good idea to say No, Bernie. Wish you lots of luck with the new regime. I hate to brag, you know that, but I've gone down two dress sizes since I changed my eating habits. Now, instead of looking like an old woman I look like a wizened old woman...lol. Seriously good feeling when I went to buy new trousers today and discovered my new size. Hugs for you.

That's a nice buoyant post to wake up to. Not many of us don't need to be more disciplined. Good luck.

good luck with weight watcher and i wish you ha Happy New Year too ♥

Hi Bernie - You're right about discipline and after I finish this I'll put those chocolates on the buffet out of sight. I was just enjoying another with my cup of after breakfast chocolate. Good luck to you and your friend with weight watchers. I visited two friends in August who had been in weight watchers for a month - one had about the same amount as you to lose and she reached her goal at the end of November. The other friend had about 43 to lose and she has lost about 40 lbs now. It's entirely possible. Best of luck to you both! Glad you had such a lovely Christmas!

happy new year bernie...glad you had a great holidays...discipline can be a scary word, but sounds like you have some good aspirations for it in the new year...

and a big old Texas Happy New Year to you...I suppose each day could hopefully be the first day of a new year with someone as "wore out" as this old codger,,, lol

Eileen said...

Your Christmas Season sounds like it was very nice. Sorry to hear you had a cold though. I'm glad it didn't spoil everything for you anyway.

Oh, I will be praying for success with your discipline, Bernie!
That is something I should adopt too! Although, this year for some reason I didn't gain as much as usual (I'm embarrassed to admit this but EVERY year between Thanksgiving and the New Year I usually gain 15 pounds! And then it takes me until the next Thanksgiving for it to come off! This year I gained six pounds.)

I haven't exercised in so long now either, so that is something I am going to try and discipline myself about. It seems so much easier in the nice weather, you can walk outdoors, there are hiking trails, you can bicycle, but when stuck indoors it seems like a chore to exercise. I've ordered new exercise dvd's (ones I had on tape and I loved them and found them easy to follow), so hopefully I'll discipline myself and use them!

I have to discipline my life in a few other areas too, so that is a very good word for me too!

LOVE YOU!, Eileen
PS ~ My word for you on Facebook was 'loving' but it really should have been just plain old 'LOVE' for that is what you exude!

Bernie said...

Happy New Year, and may you have good luck with your weight loss program and your new discipline to get it done. But don't take all the joy out of life. Have a chocolate or two on me.

I'm so happy to hear of your pleasant holiday and outlook for 2011. And (of course) I admire your "word". Entering WW with a friend should be an extra incentive. Hoping the coming month is filled with warmth, friends, and all that brings peace and contentment to you. You are SO special, Bernie. I admire your determination to say "no" to people who try and speak for you! You CAN and you WILL do this!

Happy New Year. I love the New Year atmosphere too. That's a great attitude to have ... just one day at a time is enough for me, thankyouverymuch.

About your word for the year ... couldn't we all use a little more discipline. Hope that by this year's end, you would have reached all your New year's goals.

Bernie,
Here is a wonderful insight from Mike Nagy (my facebook friend in Guelph).
Now there are more overweight people in Canada than average-weight people. So overweight people are nowthe average. Which means you've met your New Year's resolution. =D Congratulations... and it's only day 4!
Seriously, I am loosing weight too, my doctor is on my case. So far my clothing is loose.... maybe down one size, but then gradual weight loss is better. Eat Right Canada has an excellent web site and you can talk to dieticians on the phone. They have recipes. tracking sheets, menus, exercises, everything! It's cheaper than weight watchers and it's working for
me. I'm glad you are here! =D

Donna said...

I admire your resolve and am committed to doing the same thing...but fall off the bandwagon now and then. Did so well today and then my husband just said "Let's get a pizza and watch the Sugarbowl"!! I'm a total pushover!
Good Luck, Bernie!!!

Bernie,
I'm glad you enjoyed your holidays! Discipline is a biggie for me, too! I have gained quite a bit of weight this year and need to get rid of it. I just wish it was as easy to lose as it is to put it on! I think if chocolate didn't exist the battle would be SOOO much easier ;) Hugs to you, Bernie, and best wishes for the new year!

And a very very Happy New Year to you my friend! I am so sorry you caught a cold over the holidays..but glad you are feeling better.
I was thinking of joining WW on line this year. I lost a lot of weight years ago and even became a WW Lecturer for a year or so before my first daughter was two years old. My weight has gone up and down up and down through the years...like a yoyo but I feel it may be time for me to also try WW again....I know it probably has changed a lot since I was involved with it. So, I will anxiously await your comments on how you like it!
I just know 2011 will bring you better health...and I hope we can meet during this year or next year at the latest..
luv 2 you!!!

Hi Bernie!
I am so glad that you enjoyed the holidays and sorry to hear about your cold. It's good that you didn't let it get in your way! I too have been trying to watch how much I eat. I haven't gained any weight but wouldn't mind losing a little!

Bernie, I love that you have chosen a "word" as opposed to making a list of resolutions. That reminds me of Benjamin Franklin and his virtues! Great model to follow.
Did you know that prior to my diagnosis I was a Weight Watchers leader? I was! And I loved it. I became a lifetime member, and then wanted to give back so I became a leader. It was a very enriching experience, and I miss it terribly. WW is a great program, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to eat healthier.
In terms of my blog - you can either "subscribe," and receive email notification of my updates, or I can just let you know (I usually post every day). Let me know what works best for you.
Happy New Year lovely lady. And good luck with WW.

Hi Bernie - We did have a lot of snow but I don't think nearly as much as you had. It's about knee deep in some spots I think but not on the driveway when took those pictures. The farmer cleared snow on Saturday and Sunday when it was fluffy. He has a blade on the small John Deer tractor so when the conditions are right it works well. It sounds like Edmonton's buried too! Hope someone will be along to help you dig out. in the meantime keep warm!

I could use a little more self-discipline myself. Organization is my weakness - or lack thereof. I could get so much more accomplished with less effort if I could just get organized!

Good luck with your weight loss goal. Just remember you don't have to lose it all the first week. You don't even have to lose it all this year. If you end the year lighter and with healthier habits than last year, you win!

Hello Bernie,

I hope you're keeping well. I'm doing OK now although it is still very cold in the UK.

I'm praying for you Bernie. God bless you always.

Dear Bernie, I know how you feel. Losing one's friends is a part of life that I could do without too. You wlll be surprised at how they all seem to be gone all at once one day. They go one at a time like leaves falling off of trees in the fall but before you know it, they all go.

What I have found is that you have to make new friends as you age that are younger than you and hopefully they will stick around longer.

Things will look up soon, Bernie. They always do and with your positive attitude, I know they will.

I hope you achieve your goal of losing some weight. It is fun to buy clothes that are a smaller size and more stylish again.

I have missed hearing from you too. I figured something was going on. My best to you.
