Beautiful Fall Weather

Dale - last weekend

Hello my friends, I hope you are all well and enjoying our beautiful Fall. I know those of you on the East Coast are really getting a lot of rain and I have heard from some of you that your temperatures are still in the triple digits. We really didn't have much of a summer but our Fall has been absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed beautiful crisp and sunny days and the colors were spectacular but this afternoon we had heavy winds and most of our leaves are on the ground. My beautiful Maple tree out front doesn't have a leaf left on it, all gone within a few hours. I was outside every day this week, it was far to pretty and warm outside, I walked each day with friends and enjoyed every moment of it.

I have had a busy week since last talking with you. I have had test, been put on medication and happy to say I am feeling better now. I have been out for lunches with old friends and new friends as well. I also have been fortunate to entertain an old school friend from home. Dale was here last weekend, her daughter goes to University in Edmonton. Doesn't she look great, it was so good to see her. We usually get together each time I go home to Moncton but this time she was visiting the West. We had a lot of laughs remembering our dates with the hockey players during high school - our group of friends had a contest - that is for another blog...lol. Anyway Dale ended up marrying her hockey player and moved to northern NB. I promised her I would visit her when I go home next. She always drives the 3 hours to Moncton to visit me, so I am over due to visit the great white North. Dale married much later in life than I did, her 2 daughters are still in University both taking Science as they want to be pharmacist - as a matter of fact her oldest daughter already is a pharmacist and has gone back to University this Fall to upgrade. They are lovely girls, just like their mom and dad.

I am going back to my nephew's on Sunday. He will be working in Toronto next week so I get to enjoy Fallon's company. We spoke on the phone last night and I realized how good it will be to spend time with her again. I miss her. My nephew told me he was picking up more furniture today. That will be nice as the house will be cozy,  not so bare but it may take me longer to tidy up. Greg is pretty good at keeping his house clean though, he does a lot really between working, being a father, cooking and cleaning. He is always on the go trying to make a better life for his family.

As you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and unless you live in a cave or under a rock I am sure you are all aware of breast cancer. I would prefer to see the tobacco companies, food industries and even the booze industries put their profits into finding a cure for this dreaded disease instead of using this time for marketing more items to sell in the name of cancer. We all know our diets and living habits contribute to our health, we all know booze and tobacco are responsible for so many diseases and even the food we eat are full of harmful chemicals. Sorry, I didn't mean to get started on this subject but it is how I truly feel. Every time I loose another loved one or friend to cancer it makes me angry. We have raised billions of dollars and still are not much further ahead than we were many years ago, that is because Cancer is more than one disease. I never felt I could hate anyone or anything but I know I am close to hating Cancer. I have lost a year and a half (at least) of my life to this disease......it is time to find a cure.

Sorry I got a bit carried away on that subject.  I will be taking my laptop with me to Greg's so I will be able to keep up with your postings if I am not too busy. I do hope you all have a great week.

Oh yes I just want to say that I have received e-mails from some of you as you haven't had a comment from me on your post, I assure you I have been to every post that Reader tells me about. It has missed notifying me of a few post of my favorite bloggers, I am now going to start checking on my own if I don't see a post from you after a while. I so enjoy reading your post, seeing your photo's and keeping up with how you and your families are doing.

Be well my friends, God Bless and many, many hugs........:-)

Life happens and it's not always easy to catch up on everyone's posts. That's ok! Good to see that you are well and enjoying good friends and company. We have had a gorgeous week - I even enjoyed the autumn winds today, but the trees are getting bare! Oh well - that's life in our neck of the woods. God bless and have a lovely week-end!

Oh Bernie! I said just this week more than once "I HATE CANCER!" After losing my daddy last Dec. to lung cancer. It took him soooo quickly and the chemo and radiation just took him down to nothing before he passed away.
I just learned a couple of days ago my neighbor has cancer and isn't doing well at all! It just BREAKS MY HEART!! I HATE CANCER!!

OK enough hating! I am soo glad you are going back to Fallon! You have to be such a gift to her! Enjoy your stay my friend!

sooo happy to hear you are feeling better and having such a good time with friends too!

Love you!

It is so good to read your post, Bernie, and to see that you are doing well. I am going to be 66 on Sunday and, while I continue to mourn my job loss after 18 months, I am making many changes in my life. I am excited that I actually have a trip coming up. My oldest son gave me a ticket to New Orleans so I can attend my 45th reunion of my Charity Hospital nursing school class in mid October. We have one every five years but, because of Katrina, we missed our 49 year reunion.

Blessings to you and, of course, as an RN, I totally support your fight against cancer.

Trees are turning quickly here now. Usually they peak this coming week and seem to decline after TG.

Hopefully one day there will be a cure for all types of cancer ... hopefully soon.
It has been beautiful here too. The leaves are falling and the air is crisp.
I love catching up with old friends. I have 2 friends that I went to elementary school with and we see each other often ... in fact tomorrow!
Have fun with Fallon ... you are such a blessing!
Hugs,
Donna

Bernie, you are such a friendly person with a good heart. You deserve to have such good friends and family. Dale looks lovely and I know how much you love Fallon too.

Cancer is a horrible word and a horrible disease and it has certainly affected my family too.
However, I think huge progress is being made and I know that I and also my husband are living on borrowed time and I know that only a few years ago, I'd have been sent home to die.
I am grateful for any extra time I might be given.
Lets hope a complete cure is found soon. The disease has claimed far too many people.
I think cancer makes you passionate. I could easily get carried away.
That is a very good thing.
Lots of love
Maggie X

Dear Bernie, I just know you will enjoy your time with Fallon. Let's hope the weather improves for you. A cure for breast cancer is long overdue, but I hear of people being 'cured' all the time and I'm thankful for that. More research and more money is definitely required.

Have a great time with Fallon, and take some photos to show us, when you get back.
I don't think I have ever experienced degrees in three numbers? I like the cold though. Crisp cold mornings, clears the old head out ha-ha! I warm myself up with buckets of hot tea(I drink the tea, I don't bath in it, btw)!

What a great post. You sound so positive, thoughtful and happy. That goes a long way when dealing with health issues especially. In South Carolina the rain is gone, the sun is out and we finally, finally, finally have shut off the air conditioner and have windows open to beautiful fresh air. Thanks for the post and stay happy!

Darling - I love you, and I must say:
I'm so sorry about the personal tragedy
cancer has caused for you and your family.
As a Hospice Nurse, I try not to hate it, too.
However, hate only hurts us.

Cancer can't define us,
or steal from us who we are.
I try to remind myself of that.

I lost my son to cancer, so yes, please let there be a cure soon.

The leaves are rapidly changing color here too and slowly falling off the trees. It's very pretty. I hope they don't get blown off all at once.

I'm glad you're doing better and that the medicines are helping you.

Have a good time with Fallon and don't work too hard. You are such a blessing to those people.

Thanks for following my blog. You are a treasure.

i'm hoping to see a cure for cancer but not holding my breath.
It has been too warm , really muggy and i can't stand it but I'm sure it will be cold soon enough. Enjoy you stay at your nephews :)

No better news Bernie, than to hear you are feeling much better,
and have been out walking and lunching with friends. Dale looks to be a wonderful warm person.

I agree, cancer research could benefit from the enormous amount of money big companies spend on just advertising alone!

Enjoy your week with Fallon and the remainder of your autumn, Bernie!

I wish our Fall colors had been more vivid. Because of the drought they didn't get much color, and leaves fell off earlier than usual.

Enjoy your time with family!

you have every right to hate cancer..and your are right that its not being faced or handled the way it could be with the resources available! SO glad you are a survivor!! YOU rock!

It's just not possible to visit everyone, everyday, is it? But friends are always there, ready to catch up when life allows.

Have a great weekend!

Oh yes, you know my concerns about cancer. It does seem we are spending a lot of money but not getting far. Good to read a post from you. We have enjoyed our beautiful fall weather too. The rain has not reached us yet. We are at drought level. Hard to believe with all the rain we had in spring. So glad you had a good visit with your friend. Enjoy Fallon dear one.

Bernie, it's so good getting together with friends! Sounds like you and Dale had a wonderful time!

I sure hope that soon they will have a cure for cancer, for all of the horrible cancers! My step mom passed away 30 years ago from breast cancer at the young age of 42, and my real mom passed away in 1987 from esophical cancer.. she was only 55. I, too, am another one who really hates cancer!!

Have a wonderful weekend Bernie, and thank you so much for visiting me on my blog! I always enjoy your visit!

Blessings,
~Lynn

We have a friend who used to have a B & B in Millerton NB on the Miramichi and have stayed there a few times on our was to CB. I agree with your comments on Cancer. Seem to hear of it more and more. I too lost over a year with chemo, radiation, surgery. then chemo again. My 5 years was up Dec 2006 and I'm still a survivor.....and good for you also!!

Fall has arrived here in the nations capital and any day there will be frost on the rooftops.

When I don't see you here, I see you on facebook and that is always a joy too. You always lift my spirits. I am glad your medication is helping. I agree on you with the industries such as food, tobacco and booze industries, contributing more to the cancer fund. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Bernie.

Bernie, glad you are getting to spend so much time with Fallon, also glad you had such a lovely visit with your friend...now these hockey players, is that why you are such a hockey fan today...my hubby is all excited about the hockey pool on Tuesday, it should be a good season. As for cancer I do pray they find a cure, hopefully our prayers will be answered. hugs to you, have fun.

Tranquility Speaks said...

Hey Bernie. How are you doing? Through your posts and those of most of my friends in the US, I've almost seen the seasons change! It feels great. Do post some fall pictures as I love the maple leaves :)

I really wish the youth refrain from alcohol and cigarettes. I wonder why the tobacco and alcohol industries even operate and aren't shut down by the government. Substance abuse doesn't solve any problems..Wish people would understand it..

Loads of love to you :)

I have my pink ribbon on my coat already. My MIL is due to go into hospital tomorrow for a small op as she was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 weeks ago. All looks OK so far but she is on the prayer list and we're off to see her in the school holdays in a couple of weeks.
Have a lovely time with Fallon. :0)

I'm happy to hear you happily and busily employed :)

I know what an encouragement you are to Greg - and I'm not sure who has more fun--you or Fallon!

How disappointing to have all the leaves off your Maple! They are falling rather quickly here also. It's hard to tell whether or not we're going to have our usual autumn colors this year.

I'm SO happy that cancer didn't get the best of you! Your spirit and heart are so strong and unselfish. Have a WONDERFUL week, Bernie.

Delighted to read your latest post. Your posts are so cheerful and make me smile. I am so glad you had a lovely visit with your dear friend. And off to see Fallon, what wonderful times I am sure you girls will have! She and her dad are so very fortunate to have you in their lives. I am sure you bring them a bright ray of sunshine. As for the cancer comment...I too wish more big companies would step up and help out more. I lost two dear family members to this horrid disease as well as have several relatives who are survivors. We must keep on marching towards a cure! Take care and enjoy your visit with Fallon. P.S. I haven't been around as much as I have been under the weather but I will be back often!

Bernie, you are so sweet! I just love visiting and keeping up with your busy life. How wonderful and blessed you must feel right now! I too feel very blessed and I AGREE, I get so angry and worked up when I talk about CANCER! I dear friend is now suffering after her second bout with breast cancer...had a mastectomy, cannot have reconstruction, and will fight for another 3 months with chemo. I am so sad for her. She is such a beautiful spirit. Please pray for my friend Mage. So glad you are feeling better, lots of hugs and smiles....

We do need a cure for cancer. We also need a way for everyone to have easy access to early detection and treatments that already do exist without going broke.

I hope you are feeling better.

Hi Bernie, Just home from my trip, and I see you're probably with Fallon now. Hope all is going well. It snowed on my high peaks here in Breckenridge today and only a few leaves still flutter on the aspens. Glad you were out and about in your glorious fall weather with friends. Hope you're feeling better.

Are you having troubles with google reader of late? Mine seems to be BLOWN up in super-size format and only allows me to see a handful of up dated blogs. I've come to reading bloggers through comment links haha.

I also can't go to my own blog from my home page anymore, I google myself to get there.

awww... if there's a means there's a way.

Enjoy your week with family! They're lucky to have you once again!

I so agree with you about cancer. Someone on Facebook once wrote: I wish Cancer would get cancer.
It will be a wonderful day indeed when the researchers in this world can find a cure for good for all those that suffer or have a family history of it. I lost my mom and my grandma and several friends already to this disease.
On the brighter side, I am happy to hear your medication is helping and that you now feel better...and that you can spend some time with your dear Fallon.
Miss you! xxoo
