Being a Villager

Hello my friends, another beautiful and busy day. I think today was one of the hottest days we have had this year, and I didn't waste a minute of it. I'll show you in pictures and please forgive me if it's kind of messed up, it wasn't intentional but then I was kind of messed up today as well.

I quickly snapped this picture of my patio doors as the carpenter's arrived, this is before they had done anything.

I snapped these after they had removed the old doors. Let the bugs enter and boy did those small midges take advantage of the open wall.

What a mess, I had put my table and chairs in the kitchen, but even the living room furniture as well as my appliances and furniture in the kitchen were covered in fine dust and everything from outside was tracked inside.

Here is a look at the outside Garden Door, they have to come back as they broke the pane of glass that hold mutton bars giving it that small pane look. Hopefully it won't be as messy when they return but ...... they are not sure when they will be able to get back to me as they have 33 more units to do. They did say it will be after the other's are complete.....oh my, I think I am looking into October sometime.

After moving everything back, polishing the furniture, vacuuming and scrubbing the floors, washing and polishing the appliances I sat my Dining Room furniture to welcome the Fall. By this time it was early evening and had cooled down enough for me to smell the Fall air.

As a villager we are taking pictures and telling each other what we ate for the day so in trying to be a good villager and good sport here are my eating habits today.

I used a pre made pizza dough but I used everything in my fridge as toppings, onions, tomatoes, peppers, olives and lots of mozzarella cheese. I had 2 slices for my supper with a glass of red wine. It really was good and tasted even better as I was so hungry.

At breakfast this morning I had a Peach, a Yogurt and a bowl of Raisin Bran cereal.
I enjoyed 2 cups of black coffee when I finished eating. I always eat a good breakfast, sometimes I have a bagel and cream cheese instead of cereal.

I then started to prepare for the carpenter's, I didn't realize I had closed myself off from the kitchen/fridge so I wasn't able to have any snacks or lunch. I did have a water cooler I had access to so I drank at least 10 glasses of water as I watched the US Tennis Open while the men were whistling while they worked.

As a snack tonight I had a large bowl of green grapes and a wedge of mild blue cheese, and as usual I have water beside me at all times even now there is a glass on my night table as I am lying in bed typing my post.

So this was my day, hurry up and wait then didn't stop until I had everything looking spic and span.....when they finished it took me a good 3 hours of cleaning before everything was back where it was suppose to be and I finally sat down to enjoy my supper.

I am still aching and a bit stiff but am so pleased that downstairs is just about completed as far as my Fall cleaning goes. Just the half bath to do downstairs.

This post is a bit messed up as I didn't post the pictures the way I wanted too but I am sure you will be able to see what I did and ate today. All in all a good day and I know I will sleep good tonight.

Good Night my friends, God Bless.......as always many, many hugs.......:-)

Having some remodeling done is really no fun...it's only after it's completed that we are glad we did it! The new doors are lovely, and I enjoyed reading your post as well. I actually arrive here from QMM's blog, and I saw your comment about the sad man. That's Dr. Korvorchen...Dr. Death...the guy that helped those people end their lives, then went to prison. It was incredible to hear him today...he's an empty man...very sad indeed. Take care. Mary

Mary, thank you for visiting. I knew he looked familar....he probably feels guilty about aiding those people in committing suicide and so he should. He is a very sad and empty man, actually he needs our prayers more than our pity.
Hope you come back soon.....:-)Hugs

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. But the better is worth the worse. :-) I hope that you will love your new door. I am wondering if it will let in as much light as before? I do love the feeling of a freshly cleaned home! Sleep well my friend.

Bernie said...

Hi Silver, pizza was delicious and the cleaning and remodelling is a pain in the neck but will be worth it once every thing is done. Have a great day my friend.....:-) Hugs

Wow, what a busy day... and all that mess to clear up. We had the whole rear of the house done with replacement windows, in one day. It was a nightmare of mess and muck. So when we had the front done, we had learnt, and so had a room at a time done. Anyway your new door look great, we call that style 'French Doors'... I prefer these to the sliding patio style.
Love Granny

Bernie said...

Brenda, I just left your site. The door does look nice but no it does not allow in as much light as the Patio Doors did....I don't mind as I am hoping the dust won't show as well...LOL
Have a great day my friend and I loved your mini videos....:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Granny, hi there, we call them French Doors here as well as Garden Doors. I really like it but you are so right about the mess and muck. I was hours cleaning up after they left.
Have a great day .....:-) Hugs

All that mess will be worth it in the long run, I am sure ... and all that talk of food is making me leave my computer to whip up a breakfast of my own! :0)

Eternally Distracted, welcome.. I am so glad you came by for a visit. Yes any remodelling causes quite a turmoil for a while but them it always worth it.
What did you find to eat? I hope it was really good......:-) Hugs

Bernie, I love the new doors. It will be great when they are completely finished. You may be a little stiff tommorrow when you wake. Your like me, I like to go to sleep with a clean house. Great job with all that water today. I could learn a few things from you.Have a fabulous day my friend.

Bernie said...

Cinnear, I am stiff and sore now, I hate to think what the morning may bring....oh well I will take your example and say tomorrow "will be my best day ever"
Sleep well my friend....:-) Hugs

The doors look sturdy and fresh. I think the pane effect will be great, too. Your clean up energy/efforts motivate me. I don't have a remodeling project going but really need to do some serious cleaning.

Your meals sound yummy! I actually made us a similar pizza yesterday. I didn't use any sauce, just a lot of thinly sliced tomatoes sprinkled with basil & lots of black pepper. It WAS good.

Good morning Bernie...Your new French Door will definitely be easier to open than the slider... and I like how the workings to make it look like small window panes is between two layers of glass...My front door is that way...so much easier to clean.

Your pizza looks perfect...Herhusband even likes pizza for breakfast!
The runner on your table with the autumn leaves is very nice Bernie!
Enjoy your leisure time today!

Always,
Wanda

Bernie, the doors look really pretty, but I am more amazed at all the work you did! I can't believe you moved all that furniture yourself, you are a good one!
What happened about getting down the blinds? Were the workman okay about it?
And they should have put up plastic between your kitchen and the rest of the house in order to protect it from the dust a little! I can just imagine the mess you had to clean!
There really is a big difference between workers who pay attention to detail and those that don't!

I hope you get some rest today! Take it easy!
Your place does look beautiful though, so your hard work paid off beautifully!
Love you, Eileen
PS ~ I have no idea where Marcy is! I asked at Wanda's, and I left a comment asking at Marcy's herself!
I guess she'll pop up in her own good time!
It's funny when this is our connection you forget that everyone else has lives 'outside of the village'! At least I do at times!

Hi Bernie,
I do like the doors, except for the crack. Hopefully it won't be too much of a wait. And I envisioned all of the dust, so sorry about that. It can get messy! I am going to get ready to clean this morning. I will wrap my knee today. I think I will take next week off as I don't know how long it takes for the shot to kick in. It took a few days for my hands. I must go and get ready!

I am so sorry you had to do so much all by yourself! The pictures from after you have cleaned and vacuumed look wonderful, as if nothing ever happened :)

Bernie for the next 2 days atleast treat yourself to all of your favorites. Please eat well to make up for all the strain your body had to undergo due to the physical labor!

Hi Bernie,
Remolding is always such a mess. Dust all over the place. But, just think how pretty it will be when it's done and you will certainly be pleased.
That pizza sure looks yummy. Now, I am getting hungry for pizza and I just had breakfast.
Take care.

I popped over to tell you who the man was, as I forgot to put his name in, and I see Mary did that. She saw the same interview I did. I do love your French doors. I know the remodeling mess us everything. When we first bought this house we had an oak bannister put in to replace a little old cheapy wrought iron one.
Yes, what about the draperies? Thanks for going back to Birdman's blog. I had to get a different e-mail for him to keep my info out of his profile. Sure enjoy visiting with you.

Hi Bernie,
I love your new french door, and I am so glad you decided to play the image food game. You did really well, I think you eat very healthy. The pizza looks so good, and it is fit for a queen. Hope you are not too sore after all that cleaning up after the workmen. Isn't the weather we are having amazing? I almost think it is a bit too hot, I sat outside for awhile yesterday reading Jane Eyre, and I was sweltering, I almost think it is hotter now than it has been all summer...but believe me, I am not really complaining. Are you still going to Curves? I have to get my butt back to the gym, I miss it, but not too excited about starting up again, because I know it is going to hurt...lol! Oh well, no pain, no gain!

Hi Bernie-

I don't do well in the chaos during remodeling projects. I think you did amazingly well.
And you had the same dinner as us - pizza and wine. !! :-)

I loved seeing some of your home. Thanks Bernie

Love Gail

Hi Rebecca, this Fall cleaning is a big job, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am now looking forward to being able to cozy up to the fire, just snuggling in for the winter.
I had to use up the peppers and tomatoes in the fridge so decided on the pizza. It was good but I will be eating it for lunch for the next couple of days.
Have a great day......:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Good Morning Wanda, I like the new door as well and I feel confident that it will have less of a draft than the patio doors had last winter.
Oh the pizza was good, I had to find a way to use up the tomatoes, peppers and cheese in the fridge as they were turning soft....I will be having pizza for lunch for the next couple of days as I don't like pizza after it's been frozen.
I did a lot of work yesterday and my body is telling me to slow down and I will soon as even this morning I am still tired. I use to be able to houseclean and have everything finished in 3 or 4 days, not anymore though it takes me at least a week...the joys of getting older.
Have a great day my friend.....our weather is suppose to change today, calling for tons of rain and thunder/lightening storms.
Luv ya........:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Hi Eileen, oh I did work hard for a few hours yesterday but it looks so nice now....I love it when I have my house all clean.
The workmen took down my verticals and were very nice about it. Now I have to wait to have my curtains made and hung....I may be up to 6 weeks without window coverings. Oh well not much I can do about it so I will just go with the flow. I have these little coaster like things I put under my furniture so I can just slide everything, no lifting which really helps me.
Hopefully we will hear from Marcy today, I always worry that one of us in the village may be ill when I they don't post or comment. I have to remember they have a life outside of blogging....have a great day my friend, luv ya....Hugs

Bernie said...

Hi A/C, I do like the doors as well, am hoping they are less drafty than the old patio doors. It was so cold here last winter and I found the house cold at times.
The pizza was good, and after all the cleaning I did I really enjoyed it with a glass of wine. I did have a good day yesterday.
Hope you and cuppa have a lovely day........:-) Bernie

Bernie said...

Hi Cathy, it was really hot yesterday and has been for several days now, it is suppose to be hot again today but weatherman is calling for heavy rain, thunder/lightening storms late afternoon....I think we are seeing the end of our hot weather.
I spent a lot of time last night killing flies and bugs that came in when the door was taken out but I haven't noticed any more yet this morning.
Have a great day.....:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Hi Diana, I do worry about your working so hard....I don't know if I could manage as well as you.
It usually takes me 2-3 days for the shots to work but oh the relief when it does.
Please take care of yourself Di, I know you are doing the best you can but you won't be able to help anyone if you get ill. You do so much, I do as well but being at home I can put my feet up for a rest if it gets to be too much.
Luv ya........:-) Hugs

Hello Tranquility, how is my young friend....I am doing extra work with Fall cleaning but I love how the house looks when it's so clean.
I am a bit stiff and tired and plan on resting today. What I have left to do will take another couple of days but I don't have a time limit so can even leave it until next week if the body doesn't feel up to it. Not to worry my friend I always eat healthy and rest whenever I need it. I wish you the "best day ever" Stillness, luv ya......:-) Hugs

Hi Choices, oh yes there was dust every where when they finished but it looks so nice and clean now that it's finished.

Hi QMM, it was so nice to have Mary visit me.
Remodeling always creates such a mess but so worth it.
A lady is coming in this afternoon with samples and is going to measure my new door and living room windows....it will take 4 to 6 weeks before they are made up and hung but they will do everything so I am willing to wait. The old arthritic hands can only do so much.
I am enjoying HH's blog, I love everything I am learning and enjoying the photo's very much.
I so enjoy your visits as well QMM and love whenever you vist. Have a great day.....:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Hi Terry, thank you I love the new door as well.
Yes I am still going to Curves, I didn't go yesterday and am not going today....very stiff and sore this morning, once I finish my Fall cleaning I will go 5 days a week again. I enjoy the exercise and the girls company.
I read Jane Eyre as a young girl and I loved it....it still is one of my favorite books.....have you seen the movie, it's been a while since I have but I always cry when I do.
I do try to eat healthy, I have to have 2 good meals a day as I take insulin. I usually snack more throughout the day than I did yesterday, couldn't get into my kitchen or fridge.
Our weather is suppose to change later today....it has been beautiful though and I have enjoyed it.
Have a great day Terri, good luck let us know how you make out today okay.......:-) Hugs

Bernie said...

Hi Gail, it is messy when doing remodelling but it is so worth it. I really don't mind as I love my house looking new and fresh but I find it hard at times with these arthritic hands.
Oh I love wine with any Italian Food especially pasta.

Oh, the new doors are wonderful!
I love the new look!

And that pizza, well it is making me very hungry as I have not had my breakfast yet.

I wish I had all your energy as I need to do some more closet cleaning but just do not feel up to it today.

Wishing you a wonderful day!
A hug to you!

Margie:)

Bernie said...

Good Morning Margie, My energy is low today as well. I have the drapery lady coming in at 1 with samples and to measure for new curtains but other than that I am going to read, watch tennis and nap all day. Hopefully by then
I will be rested enough to get back at my Fall Cleaning tomorrow.
My pizza tasted really good last night, I think because I was so hungry and I put everything in the fridge on it, I will have it for lunch later.
Have a great day my friend....Hugs

Bernie, I'm late getting to your blog today....
I love the before and after pictures. You certainly did a lot of work yourself, and I hope that you didn't over do it. Please, please, take care of you.
I was impressed the the pizza...the frozen dough...and the toppings you added. I'm soooo lazy...I buy those 'boxed' ones...not nearly as healthy nor as good as yours.
I love you, Bernie. I wish you a wonderful remainder of the evening...and a beautiful Friday.
Smiles,

Your new French Doors look lovely, Bernie! We thought about doing the same when remodeling in Denver, but I wanted the ones with sheers inside the glass. Somehow, we couldn't get the window people to quote us - perhaps they had all the business they needed at the time. At any rate, we became disillusioned with them and decided to keep the sliders. You were the Energizer Bunny, getting all spiffed up afterward. Your place looks lovely. Enjoy it!

I hate remodeling but it looks so nice when it is done. Such a mess while it is going on though. I don't feel sad about Dr. K. He put himself in that predicament.

Bernie said...

Hi Garnet, it is a big and messy job doing remodelling and house cleaning but it is so worth it when it is all finished.
As far as Dr. K goes, I have such a hard time understanding how his mind works the way it does....it somehow feels dirty/bad. I know there are even more people like him in this world and I find that scary. Feel sorry for him is not a good way to explain how I feel but you have to admit it must be horrible to be him, so sad and I still feel he needs tons of prayers to amend his ways, I know if it were me or someone I loved I sure would want people praying for me.
Have a great day sweetie and I am so happy to see that everything has settled down a bit for you, you so deserve a more restful time.
Luv ya......:-) Hugs
