Happy Memories

Hello my friends, I hope you all had a happy and blessed day.

It was my plan to sleep in this morning but the town workers had other plans. I thought it was thunder that woke me at 7 am but it was the the sound of trucks, backhoes and workers. They were repairing and paving the street. What a noise!

I had no choice so I got up had breakfast and made ready for the day. I had no plans really other than going to Curves but my quiet day turned into a busy and productive one. I read the paper, spent time on my computer and then met my friend at Curves. We did our 30 minute work out and then we met 2 other friends from Curves at Tim's for coffee. It was fun as we chatted and laughed over our coffee. I really enjoyed my time with the ladies.

When I got home and finished lunch I decided to clean my buffet and hutch. I can't believe it took me as long as it did. I emptied and sorted everything. I put many things such as candles, tablecloths, napkins and odds and ends in a box for charity then washed all my crystal, china and polished my silver. I also polished the wood and cleaned the glass doors. This evening I turned the light on in the hutch and it looked lovely, everything was sparkling and so clean, I don't know why I don't do it more often. As I was putting everything back and arranging them so many things reminded me of something or someone. The gravy dish that my mother in law received as a wedding gift, the set of crystal wine glasses that my mum started me collecting and the 25th Anniversary Cake Plate that was given to my mum and dad at their 25th Anniversary party. I also remembered my grandmother as I put her Blue Boy and Pink Girl plates in their plate stands. She loved those plates and I smiled as I remembered how she would gently wash them and put them away after a family get together. I remembered my trip to London as I placed my Harrod's coffee cups back in their special place and lovingly touched the crystal cruet my husband had bought for me when he was in Norway. Beautiful table cloths and napkins, gifts from my Aunts were folded and placed in drawers. I realized just how special this old piece of furniture was to me. I walk by it every day and barely notice it and it was today I truly appreciated it and all the loving memories it held inside. I am never going to take it for granted again. So much of my life and the lives of those I loved are within my Buffet and Hutch.

I started cleaning the Dining Room and everything in it around 1 o'clock and finally finished at 6:30 tonight. It smells good, looks great and I am so pleased. No, I hadn't planned on this project today and maybe that's why I took the time to enjoy it all, even polishing the chairs and the pedestal table. It was fun!

Our mornings have been so cold, I had the furnace on for a while when I got up but by afternoon it was 25 degrees. I had all the windows and doors opened, ceiling fans on and early this evening I turned the A/C on in my bedroom to cool off the room. It is now almost 11 o'clock and has really cooled down.....Fall is on it's way.

I want to thank you all for your prayers and please continue them, as there are still many things that need to be sorted.

Good Night my friends, God Bless and as always many, many Hugs.......:-)

Do share with us a few pictures of all that you mention here sometime!

A quick question Bernie: Are you upset/angry with me? Because of something that I said, or did? I miss your comments :-( and having you visit my blog!

I always think that if a hutch coul talk it would have such stories to tell! Yours is obviously full of memories! I hope they are all happy ones! Autumn in the air? For me, it means my temps will drop into the 80's and 90's with overnight lows in the 50's and 60's(Farenheit). I look forward to these cool temps once again. When I lived in Utah I would experience what you describe with the heat on in the a.m. and the AC in the afternoon!

You were awakened early, my friend...but you got a lot accomplished....and as you did, you took me down memory lane with you. What a wonderful post, Bernie. I also, have to stop and think when you post your temperature...25 degrees...and then remember that is (C) and not our Fahrenheit. Twenty-five degrees here is brrrrrr!!! I continue to remember you in my prayers my friend.
Smiles from Jackie

What a nice day you had, Bernie!
I love days like that when you can be alone with your memories and reminisce, and just savor it all. It's a nice little respite in our busy lives.
And then to top it off you have a nice clean home and a new-found appreciation for your hutch which holds your life's treasures!
Great post, Bernie, I really enjoyed it a lot!
All the best,
Eileen

Good morning Bernie...
I slept in this morning till 7:00 :) can't help being an eary bird!

I so related to your hutch story... my gg/mother's sugar bowl, my g/mother's glasses and egg cottlers, and wine glasses from my parents fill mine with memories too...but mostly I related because mine "needs" a good cleaning too...I think I will wait until the grandchildren are back in school though.

Glad your impromptued cleaning gave you pleasure Bernie...hope today holds much more for you!

You are always in my thoughts and prayers Bernie. Hope everything is resolved and turns out well for all involved. You have so much to offer.

Always,
Wanda

Good Morning Bernie,
It sounds like you have some good Friday favorites that you can post this week! I noticed that you said it was 25 degrees and you put the a/c on! I think you meant something else or else you were having a major, major hot flash!
It seems that quite a few peoples post are hinting of fall. I wonder if you like the fall Bernie?

Love how you say 25 degrees is warm! Of course, sad to say, Michael would agree that even 25 degrees F is just right...brrrr.

We are having some cooler weather and it is making me anxious to do some Fall cleaning. Of course when I read about all that you do, that inspires me as well!

I am hoping that you will post some of those treasures in your china cabinet on Friday favorites as they sound so interesting.

blessings and hugs,

marcy

Hello Bernie - Perfect! I can read your post and Wanda's back to back! I'm having my morning coffee while I visit with you (wish I had a piece of Wanda's pie to go with it!). I love the story of your hutch - so many memories. Many items in my home were lovingly handed down or gifted to me. I look at them every day and sometimes don't "see" them. You've reminded me to take a fresh look and feel grateful for the many memories.
Have a great day, Bernie.

I love it when I can dedicate a day to a special cleaning project. When I was a young girl, I used to clean my grandmother's hutch. All the dishes would come out, get washed, shelves dusted and all put back in... She was such a dear heart. I remember with such warmth in my own heart her little tea parties with her friends. (I going on here, guess I need to write a post about her ;o)

25 degrees! we're getting some cool weather later this week... I actually prefer it cooler.

All the best to you, Bernie...
Maria
ps. I meant to stop by and tell you that your new hairdo is adorable!

Hi Eileen, I thought of you yesterday as I washed some lovely goblets that my husband and I picked up at a yard sale many years ago. They are very heavy, gold and you would love them, they must be at least 40 years old.

You have me wondering if I shouldn't clean my china cupboard..I usually do it twice a year...usually right before Thanksgiving. I, too, love handling pieces and remembering where I got them. My prize is the china cup and saucer that is gilded in gold from Germany that was my Grandmothers.

I hope what is stressing you out is not that you are diagnosed with an illness of some sort.... or that this is happening to someone you are close to. Prayers to you. If you ever want to confide in me by email, I will keep your secret confidential. If you need to talk to someone, I am always here for you.

Joan, thank you for your kind words, I think I have everything under control now but I am enjoying the prayers too much to have them stopped. I will be fine my friend.
Enjoy your china cabinet, there are so many wonderful things in there.......:-) Hugs
